To investigate the sociality improvement by art therapy program for maladjusted elementary school students, this study is a quantitative research which has experimental group and control group.
Art therapy program is conducted 12 times and sociality tests are carried out before and after experiment targeting 15 experimental group. 15 expermental group and 15 control group are chosen from guidance card students of the 3rd~6th in Y elementary school.
To achieve this goal, the research problem is that:
1. Does therapy program influence on maladjusted elementary school students?
Items which are used to solve this problem are changed to be easily understand by elementary school students based on items for sociality measurement of Jeong Beom Mo's personality test and on items of Oh Kyeong Joo(1998) and Oh Hyeong Geun(2001).
Quantitative research is designed to verify the effect of art therapy program statistically. Repeated measure ANOVA is performed to examine the differences between groups(experimental and control) and between tests(before and after) after having homogeneity test of experimental group and control group through T-test. One-way ANOVA is performed to analyse simple main effect in case of showing meaningful effect in interaction between group and test period.
The results are as below:
1. Experimental group has in the improvement of sociality compared with the control group.
2. Experimental group has statistically in improvement of sub factor, activity, dominance, sociability and cooperativity, control group.
Art therapy program, therefore, has positive effect on maladjusted elementary school students.
Overall these results, elementary school students express their emotions, focus on art activity and cope with and adapt new change. Art therapy program is designed suitably for their ages, abilities and purposes that they can be easily exposed to the program. They feel fulfilled and improve confidence by completing art work and reduce selfish thoughts through proper interaction in school life. They also learn how to adjust their desires in relationship between people and how to express yield and refusal. Aforementioned things have effect on sociality improvement.
