While youth unemployment issues come to the front and knowledge economy society is arrived, university students have to made bases for being grown to mature professionals that enable to manage future life productively. However, cognitive aspects on careers have been highlighted till now in spite detailed practicing processes of career performs are very important. Also, each university is helping students to prepare successful career preparations recently and strengthens leadership educations as methods of training talents whom the society needs, and the self-leadership among them is expected to give helps in achieving career goals by affecting individuals in the process of career decisions and career preparation behaviors. Therefore, this study intended to provide a basic data to self-leadership competency program through which university student’s career educations could be strengthened, and aimed at verifying which affecting relations were existed between university student’s self-leadership and career preparation behaviors, and did the self-efficacy have mediating effects between two matters. Thus, the study set up research issues same as follows. First, 'Which influences are affected to career preparation behaviors from behavior focused strategies, natural reward strategies, and constructive thought pattern strategies as university student’s self-leadership ones?' Second, 'Does the self-efficacy have mediating effects between university student’s self-leadership and career preparation behaviors?'
For solving research issues, the study carried out a questionnaire by objecting to university students of 5 universities. Total 500 sheets were distributed and 476 ones were collected, and then answers of 462 sheets (effective rate: 92.4%) were used for doing analyses after exempting inappropriate answers. Regarding to measuring tools, that of Shin Young-kuk, Kim Myung-so, Han Young-suk (2009) who applied tools of Houghton and Neck (2002) in relation with the self-leadership was used, and Kim Yeon-sun (2008) having applied tools of Chen, Gully, and Eden (2001) in relation with self-efficacy, tools of Lim Eun-mi, Lee Myeong-suk (2003) for analyzing career preparation behaviors were utilized.
In brief, analysis results are same as the following.
First, behavior focused strategies and natural reward ones affected significant influences to effort actions for achieving goals and career searches utilizing special tools among sub-factors of career preparation behaviors as the result of analyzing effects of university student’s leadership on career preparation behaviors, but constructive thought strategies of the self-leadership were displayed as not affecting significant influences. On the other hand, only behavior focused strategies of the self-leadership were came out as affecting significant influences in the career search item through surrounding persons among sub-factors of career preparation behaviors.
Second, as the result of verifying mediating effects of the self-efficacy in relation with behavior focused strategies and career preparation behaviors as sub-factors of the self-leadership, the self-efficacy was shown as having partial medicating effects on behavior focused strategies of the self-leadership, effort actions for achieving goals of career preparation behaviors, and career searches through surrounding persons. However, the self-efficacy appeared not to have mediating effects in relations with career consultations utilizing specialized agencies and experts together with career searches using behavior focused strategies and career searches utilizing specialized tools.
Third, as the result of verifying mediating effects of the self-efficacy in relation with constructive thought strategies as sub-factors of the self-leadership and career preparation behaviors, the self-efficacy had partial medicating effects to constructive thought strategies of self-leadership, effort actions for achieving goals of career preparation behaviors, career searches utilizing specialized tools, and career searches through surrounding persons. Also, the self-efficacy was came out as having full mediating effects in relation with career consultations utilizing experts of career preparation behaviors together with constructive thought strategies of the self-leadership.
Fourth, as the result of verifying mediating effects of self-efficacy in relation with natural award strategies and career preparation behaviors, the self-efficacy showed partial mediating effects in career consultations utilizing specialized agencies and experts for achieving goals of natural award strategies and career preparation behaviors of self-leadership, and it became clear to have full mediating effects regarding career searches through surrounding persons at career preparation behaviors. Nonetheless, the self-efficacy turned out to have not any mediating effects in relation with career searches utilizing specialized tools at natural reward strategies of the self-leadership and specialized tools of career preparation behaviors.
Based on study findings, study suggestions are as follows:
First, strengthening professional and systematic career education services is necessary by being led by university.
Second, in order to promote self-leadership competency, educational programs that could create synergy of self-leadership competency by linking sub-factors rather than educating one factor intensively.
Third, leadership programs from respect of human resource developments that are able to create individual performance and development shall be established afterwards by cultivation competency programs related to effectiveness variable like self-efficacy in executing self-leadership researches.
