Aging has been growing rapidly in Korea, it requires not only increasing the number of a social welfare facility including senior center, but also increasing the number of specialist requirement and a role which takes a charge of social welfare. The key factor that may decide the quality of social welfare could be defined as variable related with the job satisfaction of an employee in a social welfare facility.
The job satisfaction of an employee is significantly associated with organization effectiveness, organizational commitment, turnover intention, furthermore, the quality of life. For senior center, as it requires the manner of respect and emotion for the aged more than other clients, on service characteristic for elderly, it is important to control feeling. Emotional labor causes the physical and mental phenomenon such as job stress of an employee, feeling starvation, job dissatisfaction, turnover intention, job satisfaction, the work outcome and belief, but there is poor study for job satisfaction related with emotional labor of an employee in senior center.
For this, this study tried to define the relationship between emotional labor and job satisfaction for employees in senior center. Concretely, this article defined the level of job satisfaction of an employee in senior center and the influence factor, conducted survey for employees in senior center for finding a role of emotional labor in the path. This study distributed 400copies of survey to employees who work in the elderly housing welfare facilities, the elderly medical welfare facilities, the leisure facilities for the elderly, the elderly home care facilities and the elderly protection agencies, 343 has been collected, and 340 has been analyzed excepting for 3 copies which the responds were poor.
The result is as follows:
First, there was higher job satisfaction than usually, the internal factor of job satisfaction was higher than the external factor of it. The wage satisfaction was lower in the internal factors, they have recognized that job is socially important and has autonomy; employees themselves have partly understood job competence. Male employees had higher awareness of welfare, a promotion, job recognition and job capacity than female employees, the more the group has academic ability, and the more understood they have job recognition. The recognition of 20s for a wage level, of 40s and 50s for a promotion, of 20s and 30s for job recognition and of 30s and 50s for job capacity was higher than other age group, respectively.
Second, the level of a sincerely act was higher than a superficial act in the level of emotional labor. There was no difference depending on academic ability between male and female for a superficial act and a sincerely act, but the level of a superficial act in 20s and 30s was higher than 40s and 50s.
Third, it had the positive effect on job satisfaction and welfare, but it didn’t have significant effect on wages, a promotion, job recognition and job capacity, on the other hand, a superficial act had the effect on job satisfaction in a group analysis.
Fourth, job capacity and a promotion had the positive effect on a superficial act and a sincerely act of overall emotional labor, and it had the negative effect on job recognition.
Fifth, a superficial act had significant negative mediating effect on the path which job recognition and a promotion influences job satisfaction in analysis by group.
As this paper above is isagogic study that handles emotional labor of an employee in senior center, it has significance as the study that analyzes comprehensively the factor of emotional labor and job satisfaction. In spite of such significance, as this study has set a limit to the subject as employee in senior center at Seoul, there was a limit to generalize the result of this study. Moreover, as this study has set a limit to study just variable of emotional labor and job satisfaction, in future, the study has to extend variable related with other job and needs to precisely define the effect on an employee of emotional labor in welfare.
