Introduction & Purpose :
The increase in the adult and elderly population is causing problems such as a weakening of the welfare support for the adult and elderly persons, isolation, and other problems. With the rising concern on the qualitative life in relation to the satisfaction of the elderly about their lives, the necessity to recognize and control the factors which affect meaning of life has become evident.
Methods :
The period of collection the material was from October 23th to November 3th of 2012, by surveying 210 in adults from 45 to 64 years old and 198 in elderly above the age of 65.
Data were analyzed with SPSS window 20.0 program. To meet the purpose of the search, descriptive statistics, Spearman Correlation, and multiple regression were performed.
Results :
1. The degree of meaning of life in Adults were significantly higher than in elderly(F=4.253, p=.040).
2. The degree of meaning of life(t=3.611, p<.001), successful aging(t= 2.563, p<.011), self-transcendence value(t=4.967, p<.001) showed significantly difference between in adults and elderly.
3. The predictors of meaning of life in adults and elders were successful aging(β=0.353), hope(β=0.289), self-transcendence value(β=0.189), and allowance(β=0.117) in adults and hope(β=0.351), life satisfaction (β=0.272), successful aging(β=0.274) in elders. The biggest factor was successful aging in adults and hope in elders. These factors enabled to explain 51.9% of the total variance in adults and 59.4 % in elders.
Conclusion :
Based on these findings, the above major influencing factors(successful aging in adults and hope in elderly, especially) should be considered to develop a new nursing program for the meaning of life.
