    Abstract

    Both South Korea and China are members of East Asia cultures and Confucian cultures and people in the two nations have a variety of features in common, such as appearance, language and cultures. Due to various history reason, there had been no-communication for almost ten years. Production mode and cultures are different in the two countries. The thesis tries to demonstrate and prove differences in two countries through comparing characters on the 2 countries’ TV series.
    This study investigated the characteristics of the characters represented on Chinese and Korean television drama between 2010 and 2012. focusing on the inner and outer images and roles of the characters weights. For this goals, this study established three research questions involving the characteristics of the characters on the Chinese and Korean television dramas. To answer those research questions this study analyzed a total of 16 dramas which were included in upper 5th in the ranking of year-average rates.
    The thesis studies 16 TV series produced by China and South Korea from 2010 to 2012 and I compare gender of characters, ages, education and social economic levels to demonstrate the culture difference existing in the 2 countries. Through studies, at present, gender discrimination shot in TV problems has been improved in China and South Korea, but females in the TV series are mainly young beautiful ladies and also in the senior management level. Males are still the main force in workplaces and females are described as dependent. Although concept of gender discrimination has been lighter and lighter, we have to admit there are still backward ideas alive.
