The partial development such as block or plot unit in subway adjacent area where walking activity occurs around subway station has changed walking axis and it accompanies change of microscopic land use. In addition, stations of public transportation such as subway station has been pivotal of reorganizing walking activities. Therefore, it is meaningful to understand the characteristics of urban structure affecting floating population around public transportation node in terms of understanding the specific gravity on public transportation volume of pedestrian for overall.
On the background of these awareness, this study has the purpose on classifying subway adjacent area, understanding characteristics of urban structure by types and understanding the characteristics of urban structure affecting floating population of subway adjacent area. By these purpose classifying subway adjacent area by conducting cluster analysis based on floating population by subway stations and time. And verified the result of cluster analysis by analyzing the characteristics of urban structure classified by social economy, land use, physical, walking circumstances. Also analyzed correlation between floating population and urban spatial structure by conducting multiple regression analysis by using weekdays floating population of subway stations as dependent variable and using variables used on characteristics analysis as independent variable.
The result of cluster analysis has classified in to residential centric subway adjacent area, employment centric adjacent area and the mixed.
The residential centric subway adjacent area has shown that board excess during the morning peak time, alight excess during the night peak time in residential centric subway adjacent area and distributed suburb of Seoul. On the other hand, employment centric subway adjacent area has shown exactly the opposite of residential area and distributed office area in downtown.
The result of urban spatial structure characteristics of subway adjacent area has shown that the resident population, the number of households, residential floor area are the most shown characteristics of all in residential subway adjacent area and in the employment centric area has shown that the number of enterprises, the number of workers and commercial use floor area, office use floor area were distributed intensively and lastly mixed type has shown the characteristics in the middle of both types. And has verified that the designation of each cluster as residential centric, employment centric, mixed type is reasonable.
The result of multiple regression analysis has confirmed that the increasement of commercial use floor area augmenting the floating population. And the result has shown that office use floor area has relevance to floating population in three types instead of residential centric subway adjacent area. This shows that commercial and office purpose movement could explain the change of floating population. The increasement of enterprises in overall subway adjacent area and the employment centric area is linked to the increasement of floating population by the reason of movement of commute purpose affecting the change of floating population.
Finally, this study, which trying to find out the influence factors of floating population of subway adjacent area has shown that commercial use floor area and office use floor area are the most related factors to floating population.
