This thesis deals with a Yin and Yang Theory Understanding and Historical Case Study on the Extraordinary Phenomena in the Heavens and Disasters. And of the Extraordinary Phenomena in the Heavens and Disasters are focused on a solar eclipse and a comet. From ancient times people have observed closely the Extraordinary Phenomena in the Heavens as it heralded the destinies of nations and grave national concern. The Extraordinary Phenomena in the Heavens are absolutely indispensable to the process of balance of yin and yang, and they have a vital influence on disaster outbreak. The Extraordinary Phenomena in the Heavens have a great deal of influence on the earth physical, chemical, biological environment, and they lead to a number of disasters.
There are Natural disasters and Social disasters in disasters. Natural disasters contain diastrophism as earthquake, the eruption of a volcano and abnormal changes of weather as a drought, a flood. Social disasters contain famine, contagious disease, war. These disasters have effects on close relationships with one another. So, if the Natural disasters occur due to the gravitation caused by The Extraordinary Phenomena in the Heavens, human society under natural environment will encounter with Social disasters.

천변(天變)과 재이(災異)의 상관성에 대한 역사적 사례 연구

-일식과 혜성을 중심으로-


본 논문은 천변현상과 재난과의 상관적인 관계를 다루고 있다. 그리고 천변현상 중 일식과 혜성에 중점을 두고 있다. 사람들이 고래로부터 천변현상을 주의 깊게 관찰한 것은 그것이 국가의 운명과 중대사를 예고하기 때문이었다. 천변현상은 천지 간 음양의 조화와 균형의 상실로 인한 인력의 변형으로 발생한다. 음양의 조화와 균형은 우주의 생성원리이고 우주변화의 근본원리인 것이다. 음양조화의 과정에서 필수불가결하게 출현하는 천변현상은 재난의 발생에 중요한 영향을 미친다. 천변은 지구의 물리적, 화학적, 생물학적 환경에 다대한 영향을 미쳐 여러 재난이 도래하게 하는 것이다.
재난에는 자연적 재난과 사회적 재난이 있다. 자연적 재난은 지진, 화산폭발과 같은 지각변동과 가뭄, 홍수와 같은 기상이변을 포함한다. 사회적 재난은 기근, 전염병, 전쟁을 포함한다. 이들 재난들은 서로 밀접한 관계가 있다. 그래서 천변의 인력으로 자연재해가 발생하면, 자연환경 아래에 있는 인간사회는 사회적 재난에 봉착하게 된다. 그리고 천변은 인간의 심리와 생리에 상당한 영향을 주어 재난을 유발시킨다.
소위 ‘어두운 고난의 역사’를 창조하는 天變災異는 하늘과 땅의 일상적이지 않은 현상을 말한다. 그것은 천지만물이 있어야 할 제 자리에 있지 않고 사물이 자신의 일반적인 특성과는 다른 모습을 보여 사람들로 하여금 기이한 느낌을 갖게 하는 것이다. 천변재이현상의 근원에는 태양의 과학적인 원리가 작용하고 있다. 그래서 태양 인력의 변화로 인해 일식과 혜성의 출현이 이루어지는 것이다. 과거에 사람들은 일식과 혜성이 출현하면 큰 우환을 가지게 되었다. 그 이유는 사람들이 일식과 혜성이 인간사회에 다대한 재난을 초래한다는 傳承을 믿었기 때문이었다.
일식은 달이 해를 가리는 현상으로서 해와 달, 지구 사이의 인력의 변화가 일어난다. 혜성의 출현은 태양의 공전과 관련이 있고, 태양이 공전하는 주변공간의 인력에 영향을 받는다. 일식과 혜성에 의해 초래되는 재난들은 다음과 같다.
지각변동은 그동안 지구순환의 과정에서 축적된 지구내부의 지질학적 부조화와 불균형을 해소하는 것이다. 그것은 지구환경 전체의 조화와 균형을 원래의 상태로 다시 회복하려는 천변현상과 결부된 지구 자체 자정작용의 필요악적 결과물인 것이다.
기상이변은 대기환경에서의 음양의 조화와 균형을 상실한 측면으로서의 재난과 그것을 회복하는 필수불가결한 과정으로서의 상반된 양면성을 지닌 재난인 것이다. 양기가 극성하여 음양의 조화가 상실되면서 한발이 극심하게 되면 음양조화를 회복하고자 태양계 외부의 우주공간에서 음기가 집중되어 형성이 된 혜성이 출현하는 것이다. 그러면 수분(음기)이 충분히 공급되어 양기를 제압하고 오히려 음기가 과도하게 번성하니 대홍수를 유발하게 되는 것이다. 그리고 그 후에는 건조해진 공기가 밀도가 낮아져 태양열에 신속하게 가열이 되면 양기가 급속도로 팽창하여 다시 혹독한 가뭄이 발생하는 것이다.
그리고 천지 간 음양의 조화와 균형이 상실되어 발생한 자연재해 이후 인간사회는 기근을 겪게 된다. 인간 역시 신체에서의 음양의 부조화로 인해 평소 음기와 양기의 적절한 상호작용으로 유지되고 있던 신진대사의 균형을 잃게 되어 건강을 해치고 나아가 집단적인 전염병의 발생이 전개되는 것이다.
세상에서의 음양의 조화와 균형이 상실되면 우주공간에서의 지구에 대한 태양과 달의 인력 변천으로 야기되는 집단 심리의 폭력적인 변화도 급속히 진행된다. 설상가상으로 심각한 사회적 재난인 기근과 전염병의 만연이 극도로 심화되어 민심이 더욱 흉흉해지게 된다. 그러면 가장 비이성적인 집단행동으로서 사회생활에서의 최고의 폭력성을 보여주는 참혹한 전쟁이 전개되는 것이다.
천변재이에 의해 초래된 중요한 사건발생의 통계분석을 고찰하여 보면, 일식과 혜성도 태어날 당시 우주의 기운을 받는 사람의 출생처럼 천변 후 중요한 사건의 발생은 출현 당시의 절기를 반영하고 있으며 천변재이에서의 음양조화 상실의 특성이 잘 나타나고 있다. 그래서 3월부터 6월까지의 발생한 일식은 양기가 성장해야 할 때에 양기를 대변하는 일광이 억제가 되므로 음양조화의 상실로 이어져 큰 재난들이 다른 달보다 많이 나타났다. 혜성은 음기의 집합체이므로 정양의 계절보다는 음기가 강한 겨울에 음기가 가중되어 음양조화의 상실이 더욱 심화된 결과 대규모의 재난이 많이 발생하였다. 여러 재난 중 사회적 재난인 전쟁과 전염병의 창궐이 위와 같이 음양의 조화와 관련된 계절의 속성을 가장 잘 반영하고 있다.

기존의 연구들은 ‘天變현상’에 대한 자연과학적 고찰만 있을 뿐이고 인문학적 견지에서의 실증적인 연구는 거의 전무하다. 그래서 이 논문에서는 역사적 사실에 근거한 과학적 접근방법으로 천변현상을 고찰하고 그것이 갖는 인문학적 의미를 추구하였다. 일식과 혜성에의 과학적이고 실용적인 고찰은 집단운명의 감정을 통해 통치 질서의 안정을 도모한 선인들의 탁월한 지혜의 계승이다. 또한 그것은 새로운 과학적 원리의 발견과 발전에 적지 않은 동기와 자극을 제공할 수 있고, 정부와 여러 기업들의 필요에 의한 계획수립에 훌륭한 실용적인 지침이 될 수도 있다. 그리고 그것은 현대인들의 사고방식을 覺醒시켜 지성과 감성의 적절한 조화의 성취에 多大한 역할을 할 수 있다.
