The purpose of this study is to confirm that emotional intelligence influences
aggression and anger expression by examining relations among emotional
intelligence, aggression and anger expression of adolescents. The subjects of
this study are 450 middle school students of first, second and third grades with
questionnaires. First of all, this study looks into the average of emotional
intelligence, aggression and anger expression according to variables of social
demographic and examines verification of differences in gender, year, grade and
standard of living. And this study is examined with correlation and multiple
regression analysis in order to check how emotional intelligence influences
aggression and anger expression.
The results of the analysis are as follows:
Firstly, this study found a negative correlation between emotional intelligence
and aggression of adolescents. When compared with aggression in sub factors,
it presented a meaningful negative correlation statistically between empathy and
regulation of emotion. However aggression presented a meaningful positive
correlation with utilization of emotion. The sub factors of emotional expression
presented aggression as a variable of 43.2 percent.
Secondly, emotional intelligence presented a negative correlation with anger-out of adolescents and conversely, presented a positive correlation with
utilization of anger. However there was no meaningful correlation with anger-in
statistically. In sub factors, it presented a meaningful negative correlation
between regulation of emotion and anger-in. Compared to anger-out, it
presented meaningful negative correlations with empathy, emotional facilitation
of thinking and regulation of emotion. However, utilization of emotion presented
a positive correlation with anger-in and anger-out. Anger-control presented a
positive correlation with all sub factors of emotional intelligence.
The sub factors of emotional intelligence presented anger-in as a variable of
43.7 percent and anger-out as a variable of 36.0 percent. And in anger-control,
it presented as a variable of 19.8 percent.
These results imply that emotional intelligence influences aggression and
anger expression of adolescents. Concrete and methodical programs should be
developed for advancement of emotional intelligence of adolescents. However, we
need to have additional studies because utilization of emotion influences
aggression and anger expression of adolescents positively.
