So far, there have been many psychiatric treatments, such as psychotherapy and consultation, to resolve youth anxiety disorder and, from this perspective, this is an effort to provide qualitative study on fine arts treatment observing changes in periodic behavioral frequencies while utilizing anxiety scale that is to reduce youth anxiety.
The subject of this study was a 15-old youth who complained unreasonable anxiety over physical performance with fear of ghosts and a concern of loosing legs. Fine arts treatments had been applied each 60-minute, twice a week, a total of thirty sessions for six months from October 18, 2011 to March 30, 2012. This study mainly aimed to identify effects of fine arts treatments to cure psychological behavior over fear anxiety.
This study qualitatively analyzed subject's anxiety, fear, and behavior through periodic records of observed behavior, third-person evaluation, and changes in artistic expression. Spielberger's (1970) State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, as an assistive tool, was referenced in the study.
In result, there have been changes pertaining to behavior and emotional and attachment aspects: the symptom of a compulsive physical anxiety was removed meaningfully, the subject realized that the behavioral self-recognition effects anxiety, fear of ghosts was reduced, and further psychological conflicts was resolved through fine arts activities.
This study found that fine arts treatments could not only provide meaningful changes in and positive influences on youth anxiety disorder but also remove fear.
This study showed that fine arts treatments could be helpful reducing symptoms of anxiety and fear disorder, and therefore it is the opinion that fine arts treatments could help youth counselors have a comfort daily life.
It is desired that this finding is helpful for studies on fine arts treatment and that there are more interests, research, and positive treatments for youth with anxiety disorder in the future.
