본 연구에서는 객체기반 분류를 수행하기 위해 항공사진에 ADRLS(Adaptive Dynamic Range Linear Stretching) 영상 강조 기법을 적용하여 전처리를 수행하고, MSRG(Modified Seeded Region Growing) 분할 기법을 적용하여 영상 분할을 수행하였다.

The development of the spatial resolution of optimal images into high resolution has improved the visual interpretations of images at the expense of spectral heterogeneity in single objects and some issues raised on spectral features similar to other objects due to high resolution at the time of land cover classification. In particular, the complex shapes and diverse spectral features of building objects, which are one of artificial elements in urban environments, impose restrictions on classifying them into a single classification class, even if spatial object information representing not only spectral information but also spatial features are used. In this regard, this study aimed at addressing such issues that result from the diverse spectral features of building objects using airborne LiDAR data, which provides 3-dimensional location information, in order to perform the object-based classification of aerial images.
The technique proposed in this study can be broken down into the following steps: the image segmentation of aerial images, the creation of DTMs (digital terrain model) and building detection using airborne LiDAR data, and object-based classification by fusing the two types of data. In this study, preprocessing was performed by applying the ADRLS (adaptive dynamic range linear stretching) image enhancement algorithm to aerial images in order to carry out object-based classification; and image segmentation was performed using the MSRG (modified seeded region growing) segmentation technique. To extract building information used for classification processes, a new MPF-based (mean planar filter) DTM creation technique was suggested, along with the construction of a new building detection methodology based on area-based filters. In addition, an overlaying method that can be used for performing output level fusion was newly proposed so as to accurately extract building areas from aerial images. Building information extracted from the fusion process were pre-classified as building items over the course of the final object-based classification process, and object-based supervision classification was performed by using nDSMs (normalized digital surface model) and the spectrum information of aerial images for the areas (from which buildings were excluded) as additional bands.
In this study, to verify the performance of the proposed technique, the technique was applied to four target areas (in the vicinity of the Independence Memorial Hall in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do; four areas in Daejeon), and a quantitative comparison was performed along with visual assessment. As a result, the proposed technique showed classification accuracy superior to that of non-comparative assessment techniques by addressing erroneous classification issues resulted from erroneous classification of buildings and pavements, and shadows of building roofs; and by extension, it was confirmed that erroneous classification regarding buildings and pavement items were improved. Consequently, it was confirmed that the methodology suggested in this study could be used for enhancing classification accuracy in an effective fashion when classifying ground coverage in urban areas using high-resolution optic images.
