The purpose of this study was to examine the Relationships between Rearing Attitude of Mother, Self-Regulating and Ability to Solve Interpersonal Problem.
To achieve these objectives we set up the subjects as follows:
1. Are there difference by Self-Regulating in the mother's rearing attitudes?
1-1. Are there difference by cognitive regulation in the mother's rearing attitudes?
1-2. Are there difference by emotional regulation in the mother's rearing attitudes?
1-3. Are there difference by Self-Regulating in the mother's rearing attitudes?
2. Are there difference by Ability to Solve Interpersonal Problem in the mother's rearing attitudes?
2-1. Are there difference by alternative solving thinking in the mother's rearing attitudes?
2-2. Are there difference by estimating results thinking in the mother's rearing attitudes?
3. Are there relationship between Self-Regulating and Ability to Solve Interpersonal Problem?
The subjects of this study were 96 young children of the 3∼5years old and their mothers in the kindergartens located in Daejeon and Chung-buk.
The instruments used for this study were Lee Jin-hee(2011) for measuring of rearing attitude of mother, Yang Ok-sung
The research this study, we used three kinds of research instruments :
1) an inspection questionnaires for the mother's rearing attitude, Schaefer(1959/s) Maternal Behavior Research Instrument(MBRI), which were readjusted, complemented, and used by Lee, Jin-hee(2011),
2) We used <Self-Regulation Rating Scale for Young Children between at the ages of 3-6> which had been developed for teachers by Yang, Ok-Seung(2006).
3) Children's interpersonal cognitive problem solving skills(ICPS), based on ICPS of Spivack(1976), created by Park, Chan-uk(1986)
The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 12.0 Program. Data was obtained by the subjects, and data analysis were performed to investigate frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, One-way ANOVA and Pearson's correlations statistical program. Survey tools to verify the validity and reliability of factor analysis and coefficients were calculated Cronbach's α.
The important results of this study were as follow;
First, self-regulation of children according to the rearing attitudes of mothers did not differ. but cognitive control of Self-regulation is differ by mother's rearing attitudes. According to the results, cognitive control by controlling attitudes and autonomic attitudes was higher than affectional attitudes. Cognitive control and emotion regulation in Self-regulation by age differ. As the age increasing, we could see self-regulating developing.
Second, interpersonal problem solving of children according to the mother's rearing attitudes did not differ. In addition, alternative solving thinking and estimating results thinking didn't differ by mother's rearing attitudes. However, The interpersonal problem-solving ability by controlling attitude was higher than the affectional attitude. Interpersonal problem solving according to the age of child found the similar differences in all the sub-factors. Therefore, as the age increasing, we could see developing interpersonal problem-solving.
Third, self-regulation and interpersonal problem-solving ability were associated with positive relationship. Sub-factors of self-regulation and most sub-factors of interpersonal problem-solving ability are associated with positive relationship, but emotion suppression and the thinking of result prediction were not in similar connections. The higher self-regulation, interpersonal problem-solving are higher and connected significantly, but the emotion suppressions and thought of result prediction were not related.
Through this study, mother's rearing attitudes, self-regulation, interpersonal problem-solving through three variables confirmed low variables. In addition, according to mother's parenting attitudes of the regulation and self-regulation is confirmed that the differences in the regulation and self-regulation and interpersonal problem-solving with the positive correlation could be confirmed.
In a follow up study, it needs to be generalized by increasing the sample size of the study subjects. Moreover, if we use various measure methods between the self-regulation of child and interpersonal problem-solving by environment variables, the study would be more meaningful.
