This study have configured bibliotherapy approach for parent education program to help the parents with adolescent child to understand the necessity of conflicts and to learn variety of resolution techniques by understand themselves and their children.
Therefore, we’ve conducted this program to 6 mothers the analyzed their experience its meaning through phenomenological analysis, the Giorgi method, and searched the result of the program.
The study participants are the six mothers in their late 30’s or early 40s in S city with a child from 5th Grade to 7th Grade, who is currently experiencing or soon will experience the adolescent. From October to November in 2009, we’ve held eight 2-hour experiment
sessions, which add up to a total of 16 hours, then conducted in-depth interviews after a week. The analysis data is the journal of the sessions and the evaluation and the in-depth discussions.
For experiment analysis, we’ve extract the meaning unit through Giorgi procedure and by grouping the nomogeneous meanings by unit, we’ve integrated them into 16 sub-components. Once again, through correlation between the sub-components, we’ve extracted 8
configuration components, which is the essence of the experience.
The unique characteristics of the participants and the statements of the situations, which were greatly different, have reflected the structure component and were divided into four categories.
In conclusion, by studying the experiences and the structure of meaning of the participants, we were able to discover that the participants have received the following helps. First, by reviewing their past and the current situation from self-understanding perspective, they were able to find out the reasons of their current problem and what they want and also by sharing their parenting
difficulties and problems, they were able to study the new way of parenting. Second, by understanding the personal characteristics of their children and the common characteristics that the youth suffer from child-understand perspective, they found the difficulties that
their children are suffering now and understood the main factors of the conflict. Third, since conflicts inevitably occur in a relationship, they’ve learnt to accept the pain and the situation through the conflicts and recognized the way to solve these through conversation.
Like this, participants understood their children positively by understanding the conflict between the children and recognized the need to nurture their independence.
By showing the examples of parents, who participated the bibliotherapy approach for parent education program for the conflict management between the parent and adolescence child, this study proved that the bibliotherapy can be one of a method for parent education and showed significance by providing the psychological experience on overall understanding for the participants.
