This study analyzes various factors that affect the continuity of volunteer activities and compares the degree of influence among various factors. The purpose of this study is first, to strengthen factors that have a positive influence on the continuity of volunteer activities. The second is to prevent volunteers from leaving the activity mid-way. Finally, the purpose of this study is to offer basic data for the vitality of volunteer activities.
To collect basic data, I surveyed 300 volunteers who are over the age of twenty, live in Chang-won city and continually participated in volunteer activities for more than 6 months. I analyzed question papers of 279 volunteers by coding of SPSS 14.0. To analyze the realities of participation, I did frequent analysis. To find out the differences among factors affecting the continuity of volunteer activities, I did 'Chi-square Test'. To figure out the relative influence among the factors of the continuity in volunteer activities, I did 'Multiple Regression Analysis'. Results of the study are in the following paragraph.
First, most of the volunteers are over Fifty, house-wives, highschool graduates and earn 3,000,000₩ per month. They participate in volunteer activities more than 5 years in a row, more than 2 times in a month, and 3~5 hours each participation.
Second, factors that affect the continuity of volunteer activities are age, scholastic ability, occupation, ways of participation, how to give volunteer work, the relationships with beneficiaries, existence of a staff, the frequency of participation in education and training courses, contents of education and training courses, usefulness of contents in education, social & educational compensation and economic compensation. There's no relation between self-efficacy and the continuity of volunteer activities.
Third, the most influential factor affecting the continuity of volunteer activities is 'the frequency of participation in education or training courses'. Next is 'age', followed by 'the relationships with beneficiaries', 'social & educational compensation' and 'occupation'.
Based on results of this study, I'd like to make a few suggestions to support volunteer activities.
First, the results of this study show that the most influential factor in the continuity of volunteer activities is 'the frequence of participation in education and training courses'. Therefore, volunteers need to participant in various education and training courses before, in during and after volunteer activities.
Second, factors, for example, 'how to give volunteer work', 'the relationships with beneficiaries', 'existence of a staff' are deeply related in the manager of the volunteer activities. For this reason, managers need to strengthen their personal specialities. Systems to build up managerial specialities are also needed.
Third, it needs a non-biased, diversified, united compensational program with various compensational factors.
In a volunteer activity field, ensuring continuity is the most important factor in vitalizing social welfare programs.
