As the problem of quantitative and qualitative effects of contributed open space has gradually arisen according to the related laws, the function of contributed open space has continued to diminish. In contrast, the more the various facility uses for general users have been introduced into the lobby area of office buildings, the more the cases of developing contributed open space along with the lobby area of office buildings, mainly in and around Seoul. In Daegu, however, utilization measures of contributed open space as there are, such space is only treated as a way of public design, yet without a full guideline to plan it in relation to the building.
Undertaken from this social perspective, this study intends to identify which factors influence the relationship between contributed open space and the lobby area of office building, so as to provide the basic data to improve the relationship in planning them.
Amongst the legal contributed open spaces in Daegu, researched by the metropolitan government as of April 10, 2010, such national main infrastructures as financial and communication facilities were excluded and the five office buildings with convenience facilities in the lobby area pedestrians can freely use ― Building A, B, C, D, E, and H ― were selected as the target of this study.
From the characteristics of relationship between contributed open space and the lobby area identified through precedent research, detailed items were derived and classified into visual and spatial planning elements, based on which three evaluation elements were established such as approach, identification, and continuity. Researching the actual conditions of selected sites and analyzing the three evaluation elements.
