『별나라』 아동극의 공연 지향점과 그 의미 = The Performance's Directing Point of Children's Theater in『Beolnarn』and its Meaning

This study is purposed to establish a position in which『Beolnara』is a part of modern children's theater formative period. So far, we have regarded 『Earini』as the children's literary magazine as playing an important role in forming a modern Children's theater. On the other hand, we can say that the impact of 『Beolnara』on forming a modern Children's theater has been more important. Children's theater 『Beolnara』has been evaluated as inartistic and unsuitable for the children because it is hierarchical and tends to participate in reality. However, 『Beolnara』, which pursued the performance which could obtain a higher threshold of sympathy in children as a work of non-fiction, needs to be interpreted anew from the point of modern theater.
Modern Children's theater can be divided into two categories : amusement drama, which aims to liberate sensitivity and give pleasure via laughter, and moral drama, which aims to convey virtues necessary for life choices. Whereas 『Earini』coupled amusement drama and moral drama to give pleasure, 『Beolnara』allowed the opportunity for adolescent to look back on the problem of 'present' only through moral drama. 『Beolnara』itself can be divided again into 'fairy tale drama' which centers on world realization of fairy tale, and 'reasonable moral drama', which focuses on plausible world awareness. The fairy tale moral drama of 『Beolnara』reflects on the reality of the stage reproducing imagination and sensitivity which can positively stimulate children's sensibility. Reasonable moral drama of 『Beolnara』allows children to judge for themselves how to act on the stage reproducing the organizational contradiction of reality. Works of fairy tale moral drama go after self-awareness of existence by children, engaging world of fairy tale which can arouse interest. It is to impress upon children the importance of reality by focusing on setting up the characters as the strong and the weak based on social hierarchy, and the negative impacts the strong has. Reasonable moral drama emphasizes on children's subjectivity - it has a story which solves the contradictory situation through unity, and a story which stresses practical reasoning- utilizing Christian criticism and scientific education. Main agents of writing in 『Beolnara』particularly increased completeness of performance through various performance techniques and dramaturgy so that children may realize the need of social change and practice it.
This trial can be highly appreciated in that it not only makes contents and forms of Children's theater abundant but also lays the foundations of Korean Children's theater, transitioning out of existing methods of dramatizing fairy tale. In the golden times of amusement drama and fairy tale, main agents of writing in 『Beolnara』had a piqued interest in the educational aspect of children's theater. This brought about the settlement of moral drama and a balanced growth of modern Children's theater. In addition, this kind of trial by main agents of writing in 『Beolnara』is a result of long-term agonizing over the identity of Children's theater. Children's theater of 『Beolnara』has occupied an important position in the current state of Korean play history by discussing and practicing identity of Children's theater. We can evaluate that Children's theater - which existed as a part of cultural movement- entered an era of modern theater with the opportunity of Children's theater『Beolnara』, simultaneously, the beginning of Korean educational theater has opened since then.
