(Abstract)
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the positive psychology - based literatherapy program for mothers of youths on the reduction of parenting stress and the improvement of parenting efficacy. This program grafts positive factors of positive psychology onto the literatherapy program and is expected to show some active effect through using diverse literary media.
The processes of achieving the purpose of this study are as follows, We chose 20 mothers who have middle or high school students living between YeongTongGu and PalDalGu in Suwon, GyeongGi province. A group of 10 mothers were randomly selected as the experimental group. The control group also consisted of 10. A standadized parenting stress test and a parenting efficacy test were used to mesure the parenting stress and parenting efficacy. The experimental group was given literatherapy program and the control group was given none.
The program was conducted two times a week from March to April, 2012, each time taking 90 minutes and 12 sessions. A pre-test was taken before the program, and a post-test, during the final session, and a follow - up test, 4 weeks after the program ended. The data were analyzed by one-way analyses of variance.
The research findings were as follows :
1. The first hypothesis that the positive psychology-based literatherapy program reduce the parenting stress of the mothers was supported.
2. The second hypothesis that the positive psychology-based literatherapy program would improve the mothers of youths subjective parenting efficacy was supported.
3. The improved effect was also found to be maintained nearly at the some level even after the program finished.
In conclusion, the positive psychology-based literatherapy program has proven its effectiveness in reducing the parenting stress and improving the parenting efficacy on the part of the mothers of youths.
In order for the literatherapy to become a more effective stategy of the therapy for various classes and many problems in the future, a deep understanding of the issue is urgently needed.
