This study aimed to compare with the effects of Role-play and Game-play in the social skill training program of the children with ADHD. And focused on ADHD symptom, social skill and adjustment & maladjustment behavior with ADHD children.
For the present study, 12 children were selected from the second and the third graders in primary school. The participants were chosen primarily by the teacher's recommendation and admitted to participate in the program to social skill training program for ADHD children by their parents. They were administered the Conners Teacher Rating Scale, ADS and K-WISC-Ⅲ. The criteria for participation in this study were 15 points or higher for Conner's rating scale, T-score 65 or higher for ADS, and IQ 80 or higher for K-WISC-Ⅲ.
In order to examine the effects of role-play and game-play from social skill training program focused on ADHD symptom, social skill training, adjustment & maladustment behavior with ADHD children, pre-and post tests using Social Skills Rating System(SSRS) were administered to their parents and teachers, and participants by oneself. The children's behaviors were also observed by the two observers using the behavior observation scale.
To analyze the date, two-way ANOVAs with reapeated measure and t-test as a post hoc com were conducted by using SPSS 12.0(ed).
The major results of this study are as follows:
First, Role-play and Game-play in the social skill training program of the children with ADHD was differenced to "empathy" of adjustment behaviors. Although two program showed the effects on improving ADHD children's empathy, game-play program was more significance consequence than role-play program to improving empathy.
Second, Role-play program developed improved ADHD children's adjustment behaviors(self-assertion, empathy, self control) and decreased maladjustment behaviors(ADHD characteristic) as the program session progressed. Measured using behavior observaion scale.
Third, Game-play program developed improved adjustment behaviors(collaboration, empathy, self control) and decreased maladjustment behaviors(ADHD characteristic) as the program session progressed. And game-play increased scores of SSRS of the participants reported by their teachers.
Therefore, this study demonstrated that the both programs significance consequence on increased the adjustment behaviors and decreased maladjustment behaviors.
Finally, the implications and limitations of this study were discussed, and topics to be investigated in the future study were suggested.
