The objective of present research is to analyze the current situation with junior college students' withdrawal and propose valuable insights for improving enrollment management of college. For the purpose, we classified various factors which are possible influential on the intention of academic abandonment to five dimensions, such as individual, historical, academic, environmental, and social. The main research questions are as follows:
First, whether and how the personal factors determine college students' intention of academic abandonment?
Second, whether and how the family factors determine college students' intention of academic abandonment?
Third, whether and how the academic factors determine college students' intention of academic abandonment?
Fourth, whether and how the environmental factors determine college students' intention of academic abandonment?
Fifth, whether and how the social factors determine college students' intention of academic abandonment?
For the research, total 543 samples were collected across six community colleges. A convenience sampling was used and the collected data was analyzed by SPSS program. The analysis includes frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, the correlation between variables analysis, descriptive statistics, the difference between the test variables, and hierarchical regression analysis. And to test the independence between a dropout intention and major factors, chi-square analysis was performed.
The research results are summarized as following. The results of hierarchical regression analysis showed that academic factors were affecting the dropout decision the most followed by personal factors.
Among personal factors, commuting time was statistically significant, while no significance was found from family factors. Academic factors, environmental factors, and social factors showed statistical significance to the dropout intention with *. P <.05, **. P <.01. This study shows that providing better commuting service and building closer faculty and student interaction may play a role of ameliorating the dropout intention. In addition, the efforts to improve educational facilities, convenience facilities, and to provide various activities to make campus life more enjoyable may alleviate the dissatisfaction level. Finally, the efforts of college itself are necessary to make their students to feel less of the relative deprivation and discourage as being junior college students. Moreover, the efforts of junior colleges and a government to compensate the social inequalities and to change the view of the people against junior college are absolutely necessary.
