The investment of the parents who want to grow an only child as the nobility is increasing due to declining birth rates in recent. While the number of children reduced more than in the past, the concern about child-rearing has been increasing day by day. In addition, “Six-pockets” phenomenon that both parents and grandparents invest in an only child-rearing is appearing. The products needed to care for children are being diversified, subdivided gradually and expanding the size of the market. Also, useful products that are used when to go out with family or infants, are being utilized since the proliferation of the five-day workweek. Emerging the children who were staying in marginal presence in the past, the interest of the market relevant to infants will continue to rise and show continued growth in future as the central presence in family life and consumer life.
Imported brand products to meet various life styles are increasing in the domestic market of the strollers where consumers prefer foreign products to domestic products has narrower selection of products than foreign market. According to Korea Customs Service, Korea’s imports of the strollers surged more than 20 times from $ 1.850.000 (approximately 2.1billion won) in 2000 to $ 39.120.000 (approximately 44 billion won) in 2010 in the situation to decline in fertility rates. Compared domestic strollers with imported strollers, you can see almost no difference in functions and quality between low and high price of the strollers. However, the reason why consumers look for a lot of expensive products is that they recognize foreign brands as premium brands and prefer them. Particularly there are not a few consumers in buying expensive strollers excessively because a stroller among baby products is easily visible to others. Despite foreign brand stroller’s price in domestic market is the most expensive compared to other countries, foreign brand stroller occupies more than half in domestic baby stroller market.
In other words, this paper is to analyze consumers’ needs and trend to establish premium stroller brands of the brands of baby product’s brands, study about how to take advantage of any strategies to manage them successfully.
The method is to analyze domestic and international literature and surveys & statistics, conference, newspapers, internet resources to present the theoretical basis and brand planning is carried out through a case study.
First of all, the overall analysis of domestic baby products market was done by examining the status and trend of baby products industry, the status and future direction of stroller industry with the characteristics of the stroller were investigated. Then, the analysis of consumers’ needs showed as ‘safety and reliability’, ‘functionality and usability’, ‘eco-friendly’ by examining consumption behavior and the trend of stroller consumers, these were applied in brand planning. Also I examined the status of the products of each brand by selecting 6 stroller brands that are popular in Korea for a case study and investigated, analyzed marketing strategy, checked the problems of domestic stroller market. Finally, I planned the strategy to establish premium stroller brands. For this, I analyzed STPD, drew the concept and image of the brand by SWOT analysis to summarize company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats and then suggested marketing mixed strategy.
Polarization of consumption has worsened. While a lot of baby products’ companies engage in low-cost strategy, also an expensive baby products’ market has been activated despite the products of foreign brands-oriented. The brand purposed by this study has the aim to enter an expensive baby products market and limits for premium customers. In spite of these limitations, this study suggests ‘The design strategy for premium stroller brand’ and helps activate domestic brands in stroller market.
