The Purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Art therapy in small group based on Three-Dimensional Formative Activities on social skill of the adolescent with intellectual Disabilities. Art therapy program was conducted from February to September 2011. The subjects are total 3 adolescents with intellectual disabilities who received parental consent and scored below 20points, more than 30 frequencies in SRSS. Before the beginning of the session, 3 sessions with 20 minutes free play were conducted. Fifteen minutes after 5minutes from beginning time of free play were used for measure the frequency in base line. In the time of free play, participant’s behavior was measured by scale of behavior observation. There was period of follow-up session.
To examine effects of the program, Social Skills Rating System (SSRS) which was developed by Gresham & Elliott(1990) and table of behavior observation in Social skill program restructured by youn-kyung Ju(2005) were used to measure the observing of behavior in each session for the analyzing the change of social skill in activity. Also instrument used for a pre- and post-test was SSRS for teacher developed by Gresham & Elliott(1990).
The results of this study were as follows:
First, Art therapy in small group based on three-dimensional formative activities has effects on the enhancement of self-assertiveness of adolescents with intellectual disabilities.
Second, Art therapy in small group based on three-dimensional formative activities has effects on the enhancement of cooperative behavior of adolescents with intellectual disabilities.
Third, Art therapy in small group based on three-dimensional formative activities has effects on the enhancement of self-control of adolescents with intellectual disabilities.
Therefore, the Art therapy in subgroup concentrated Three-Dimensional Formative Activities in this study turned out to be effective in improving the social skill of adolescents with intellectual disabilities.
