This study aimed at analyzing the theoretical relationship between oriental medicine in Hwangjenaegyung and nosography in Jeokcheonsu, the classic of Myungrihak. Through the integration of the two books, this study aimed at verifying the possible accommodation in line with the diagnosis and treatment of the modern medicine.
Jeokcheonsu suggested that the latent causes of a disease could be discovered through looking into the innate characteristics of a human being. In other words, the causes are likely found by seeing the balance of internal organs of a human body with its weakness and strength based on the theory of the Sexagendary Cycle, with applying the method of autogenous analysis derived from the properties of seasonal events and innate Myungjo. In contrast, the analysis of the causes of diseases within the process of checking ying and yang, heat and algor, surface and core, strength and weakness has been done through four methods of seeing, questioning, hearing and touching in the field of Oriental Medicine, in which analyzing the diseases of organs is mainly carried out through the visual inspection considering the color of face and the examination of external causes based on the theory of Six Causes from the Air and Five Causes from the Land.
The two theoretical systems are not contradictory, but are complementary with each other. Therefore, we can figure out the cause of a disease if we synthesize the analyses of internal and external causes of Myungrihak and Oriental Medicine. It eventually enables us to predict diseases before they occur, and makes treatments highly effective. Based on the theory of the Three Elements(三元論), the theory of interactive relationship between the heaven and humans(天人相應), and the Yin-Yang and Five Elements thoughts, both of Myungrihak and Oriental Medicine explained all natural events and diseases of a human being. They both have in common that internal causes of diseases can be found through the energy of the naturel and that a disease occurs because internal organs lose the balance in terms of the Ying-Yang.
In conclusion, Jeokcheonsu has a relation with the nosography of Oriental Medicine. Therefore, the integration of two theoretical systems will contribute in terms of the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Given the relation between Jeokcheonsu and Oriental Medicine, the relation between Myungri and Oriental Medicine can be also confirmed in terms of ‘Myungeuidongwon(命醫同源)’.
