This study is to investigate the effect of SWLS (Satisfaction With Life Scale), resilience and self-efficacy on happiness of high school students in meister, specialized, academic high schools in Daejeon and Chungchung-do and analyze the difference between the three different types of high school. This paper especially focuses on students in meister high school and the difference between the response from meister high school and other high schools in terms of four criterion as stated above.
The main problems to be investigated in this study are as follows.
(1) How do high school students in meister, specialized, academic high schools feel about SWLS(Satisfaction With Life Scale), resilience, self-efficacy and happiness?
(2) Are there statistically meaningful differences in three types of high school in terms of SWLS, resilience, self-efficacy and happiness?
(3) How SWLS, resilience and self-efficacy affect happiness of students in meister high school?
The participants of this study were 1600 students (869 academic high school students, 478 specialized high school students, 218 meister high school students), The questionnaires were sent and returned; however, 35 students were eliminated due to the unfaithful response. Therefore, 1565 students' responses were analyzed in this study.
The measurement tools of the study were SWLS Test, Resilience Test, Self-efficacy Test, and The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire.
The data was analyzed by the methods of frequency analysis, Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis and IBM SPSS Win Version 19 program was used.
The major findings of this study are as follows.
(1)The SWLS of high school students in Daejeon and Chungchung-do was below expectation. On the other hand, self-efficacy, resilience, and happiness were above the mid-point. This showed the healthy and positive aspect of high school students' life
(2)Students in the meister high school showed much higher score in the four criterion. This proves the students in the meister high school are happier in their life compared to other high school students.
(3)Though students in meister high school have better academic grades, better school facilities and other support compared to other high schools, they showed relatively low scores in self-efficacy and human relations in resilience, which needs further study and analysis.
The results of this study show that students in the meister high school are happier than students in other high school such as academic high school and specialized high school. This proves the national fostering policy and financial support on meister high schools were successful not only in providing better physical environment but also in increasing students' mental health and happiness. At the same time, the findings suggests good programs need to be developed to enhance confidence and human relations of meister high school students.
