They, Kim So wol and Beak suk, were poets to write poems in 1920-40s during the colonial period that folk's dignity was annihilated. they over came for pain and dispair and completed their own literary world, it contributed to overcome modernity at the colonial period by newly succeeding origin character of korean folk worship and poetic rhythm. Folk consciousness is a key point to search their traditional directivity.
This study describes the folk consciousness which is expressed by two poets in various view point as follows
First, to search the folk origin from a myth and historic perspective.
Second, to investigate the traditionality through relationship with folk consciousness in colonial modernity at that time
third, to analyze the poems with folk itself's the theory and the concept
fourth, to investigate a personality and a universality through their common point and distinction point.
the reasons why poems are well known until now are because of having a folk consciousness in the archetype, by above methodology key points can be summarized as follows
1. The korean folk's roots were a universal archetype of culture formed by ethnic group, In their contemporary poetry it's means to reinvent the ethnic group's archetype that they tried to realize a meaning of folk consciousness and deduct a traditional continuity. Thier poems were expressed the figuration of folk consciousness on traditional directivity which join the past to the future.
2. They were not subordinated to a modern literary elements at the altering period of literature and succeed to the ethnic traditionality by adhering poetry to folk consciousness which demonstrate folk archetype as seasonal customs, living tools, memorial ceremony and folk belief.
Koren folk archetype can be analysed by Kim,Teagon's Arche-patternism,
which theory is based that roots of Being belong to the chaos between the chaos and the cosmos which form all things in the universe. It suggest misfortune in one's life should be solved by wishing forward the Chaos, finally the Chaos and Cosmos is differential world that might not be separated and is continuously circulating world, On these basis we can analyze their poems.
3. Kim Sowol's poems can be regard as songs for Nim( lover) and soul, In that case Nim means a symbol of love and dream not to be achieved in the life, Between this world and beyond space world exist unmeasurable distance in cognition. Accordingly the natural objects such as water, sea, river, mountain, tree, animal, flower, grave role as medium to connect between this world and beyond space world, therefore in Sowol's poetic realm It's possible to interpret soul by substituting the Chaos and the Cosmos.
His poetic soul was willing to become aware the existence meaning by understanding them and to express the rite for individual being and destiny of an ethnic community.
4. Beak Suk is a poet who had a vigorous literary activity until the early 1940's. His poems reproduced a past folk items at the present and continued the meaning of custom through objects's identity and internalization, which is maximizing the externalization by utilizing various senses. In the past villagers lived with relatives in the blood ties community which is having each individuality, also the blood ties community put on the circularity like as Hon(soul) in the daily life, The images characteristically appear using distinctive aboriginal language and regional dialect, which has been transmitted to inner language from periphery language and the form of description has maximized epic expressions by weaved literary styles, and conduce to be ethnic language completely, thus, they conflict and resist against the enormous situation called the colonial period and counteract on the painful period through poetic action. Their literary significance is observed that they clarified poetic conscious to be modern principal and pursued ethnic group's arche pattern and traditional directivity.
5. they, Kim So wol and Beak suk, have the common points and distinction points in recognizing folk consciousness. the common points are firstly their poems expressed its people directivity and its ethnic archetype , secondary their poetry has distance consciousness willing to overcome, thirdly they had a different perspective.
especially, if Kim, Sowol's poems are to be songs for soul(Hon) faced Nim (lover),Baek suk's poems are to summarize "object contemplation through time transcended". Regarding to a different cognition of distance between two poets, the former, Sowol, showed the differentiate at the boundary of time -life and death- through the subjective space consciousness, while the latter, Beak Suk, showed the space circularity to be free from a temporal distance through presence of a beginning space in the past. SoWol's poems show the distance consciousness between this world and the transcendent space, which a subjective gaze connect to a subjective symbol and the natural objects as its symbol are intangible traditional elements.
His poetic spirit do roll of communication with chaos space over there in the nature objects, and his poems are a songs for soul (Hon) to solve problems in this world, which is the form of pray expressing the ethnic group.
Beak Suk, He had the objective sight against the superimposition of time and had the neutral ego identifying with the space and made imagery of the object and scenery objectively.
Beak suk made realistically reappearance of the past folk items as objective poetic sense, while Kim sowol made formation of love songs which sing in subjective realm as korean folk song by having distance from the nature. And to conclude, in the korean literary history The folk archetype should be realized the worth in contemporary literature, and it's obvious there have been a lot of study on their poems comparatively, but the perspective forward their poems has to be newly done because of the changing with times and society. It is necessary to do more researches and to access diversely to their poems while the folksy perspective reacts against a society with a developed material civilization
