In this study the present status functional food intake and health care of adults over 40 years of age were investigated with the goal of better understanding the health awareness, functional food intake and satisfaction. For this study, data were collected from 300 adult men and women aged over 40 living in Incheon using a questionnaire between September 14th to 27th 2011 and the collected data were analyzed with SPSS version 15.0. The response rates of men and women were 53.3% and 46.7%, respectively. The average health awareness attitude score was 21/30, and the health knowledge score was 6.5/10. In the results related to the intake of functional food, red ginseng was the product consumed most frequently by adults over 40 (55.0%), and relief from fatigue was the most frequently expected efficacy(31.7%). Only four out ten people surveyed consumed functional food on a regular basis and the highest satisfaction item 'type' was the lowest 'price'. Thus, education and professional counseling will be needed to improve the frequency of purchasing health supplements and consuming regular doses. Based on the above results, the purchase and consumption of functional food will increase a customer’s satisfaction.
