백석 시의 시간 활용 방법 연구 = A Study on the Use of Times in Baek Seok's Poetry

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 백석 시의 시간 활용 방법에 주목한 연구이다. 여기에서는 1930년대에 주로 활동한 백석이 작품 속 시간의 ‘방향’과 ‘속도’의 활용을 통해 일제강점기의 시대에 대항한 것으로 판단하였다. 1930년대는 후반으로 접어들수록 일제의 억압이 극에 달하던 시기였다. 일본어가 공용화되고 조선어 교육과정이 점점 축소되었으며 민족주의적 입장의 조선어는 문단에 표면적으로 발화될 수 없었다. 조선과 조선어의 이러한 위기 속에서도 백석은 시인이자 지식인으로서 지방어인 방언을 구어(口語)적인 방법으로 구사하여 작품을 창작하였다. 특히 작품의 제재를 동원하는 방법에 있어서도 과거의 기억에 의존한 것들이 상당수이다.
백석이 작품을 창작하는 현재의 시점에서 과거에 대해 반복적으로 언급하고 그 시간을 긍정한다는 것은 곧 과거에 대한 자아의 지향을 의미한다. 이 논문에서는 시제를 포함하는 시점의 분석을 통해 이것을 백석 시의 과거 지향으로 판단하고 작품에 나타난 시간의 방향을 고찰하였다. 조선어가 자리를 잃어 가는 위기의식 속에서도 평안북도 정주 방언을 구어적으로 구사하여 과거에 천착한다는 것은 그 자체로도 시대에 대한 거부라 할 수 있다. 이러한 의미를 가진 시간의 방향에 시간의 속도가 작용하여 백석 시는 1930년대라는 시대의 긴장과 망각에 대항하였다.
백석 시 특유의 ‘구어적 특성’은 작품에 나타난 시간의 속도에 개입하는 요소로 작용한다. 화자인 ‘나’가 작품에 직접적으로 등장할 경우 백석 시에는 다변성(多辯性)이 두드러진다. 또한 작품의 내적 시간과 외적 시간 사이의 거리에 따라 어조 변화의 양상이 다르게 나타난다. 이 같은 다변성과 어조 변화를 비롯한 백석 시의 구어적 특성은 작품 속 시간의 속도에 개입하여 해당 시간을 지연시키는 역할을 한다. 이 논문에서는 이것을 백석이 시대에 맞서는 방법으로 파악하였다. 백석은 직관과 사유를 동원하여 작품을 창작하였고 시간의 방향과 속도라는 속성을 활용하여 억압적인 시대에 거부의 의지를 표명하였다. 이 논문에서는 시인의 이러한 자아의식에 대해 ‘소극적 거부’라 명명하였다.
이상과 같이 이 논문은 자아의식과 동일한 의미를 가진 시간의식을 파악하기 위해 백석 시에 나타난 시간의 방향과 속도에 대해 고찰하였다. 특히 시간의 속도에 개입하는 구어적 특성을 백석의 시간 활용 방법으로 새롭게 보고자 하였다. 일제강점기의 긴장과 조선인으로서의 정체성의 망각에 대항하기 위해 백석이 작품의 시간을 활용하여 거부의 의지를 나타낸 것으로 판단하였다. 이 연구는 백석 시에 대해 ‘시간의 활용 방법’이라는 측면에서 접근한 점에서 기존의 논의들과 차별화 된다. 또한 시간의식의 규명을 통해 작품 창작의 출발이라 할 수 있는 자아의식을 파악함으로써 백석 시의 기저를 밝히는 데에 그 의의가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis focuses on the use of times in Baek Seok's poetry. It was thought that Baek Seok's poetry, which were mainly written during the 1930s, used 'direction' and 'speed' to oppose the Japanese colonization. In the later 1930s, the oppression under the Japanese colonization reached its peak. Japanese language became official and Joseon language education gradually reduced and a nationalist symbol, Joseon language could not be used out in the open. In these crisis of Joseon and Joseon language, Baek Seok, as a poet and intellectual, used vernacular which is a regional dialect, to create his pieces. Especially, he was dependent on his past memories to get around the sanctions.
Baek Seok's pieces discuss the past repeatedly in the present sense and analysing the period positively refers that he had an intention for the past's self-consciousness. This thesis, through the analysis of time including tense, concludes the directivity for the past's self-consciousness and discussed the direction of time in the pieces. In the crisis when Joseon language was losing its place, using verbal Pyeonganbuk-do's Jeongju vernacular to arrive at the past can itself be seen as a opposition against the regime. Therefore, with these meanings, using the direction of time and the speed of time, Baek Seok's poetry have opposed the 1930s strain and oblivion.
Baek Seok's particular 'characteristic of oral', works as a inducement for the speed of time. When the author 'I' appears directly, Baek Seok's poetry prominently shows the characteristics of talkativeness. Also, the distance between poetry internal time and external time the tone changes. Like this, characteristics of talkativeness and tone of change delays time by interfering with the piece's speed of time. This thesis interprets this as Baek Seok's opposition against the era. Baek Seok's intuition and intelligence was motivated to create pieces and by using the direction and speed of time, clearly stated his objection to the oppressive regime. This thesis titles this self-consciousness as a passive refusal.
As mentioned above, this thesis attempts to analyse the time consciousness which is a synonym for self consciousness by analysing the direction and speed of time in Baek Seok's poetry. Especially, characteristics of oral which interferes with the speed of time were analysed with a fresh eye. To oppose the strains under the Japanese colonization and the oblivion in the identity of Joseon he used the time. This research is also distinguished from the other discussions as it analyses the 'use of times method' from a different side. Also, by analysing the self-consciousness which can be the start in identifying the use of times, it aims to contribute to the foundation of Baek Seok's poetry.
