청소년 멘토링 프로그램에서 멘토의 성장에 관한 질적연구

This study attempted to find the qualitative factors of mentors’ psychosocial maturity who involved in a youth mentoring program, and based on these factors learn the necessary improvements and amendments for mentors’ psychosocial maturity. As the subjects of the study were selected nine people of mentors who participates in K youth mentoring which is managing the nationwide online mentoring program. For the subjects were conducted in-depth interviews by the qualitative research techniques, and material was collected. The interview processes were all written in verbatim. In the case that it is difficult to have interviews due to the distance, e-mail was used. Collected data were analyzed through the steps of area analysis and classification analysis. Through the data analysis the necessary parts of improvements and amendments for mentors’ psychosocial were described.
According to the findings, a relationship facilitates, their own satisfaction with themselves, and future courses can affect mentors’ psychosocial maturity. In their satisfaction with themselves having confidence, reflecting on themselves, and making their efforts to become an example to mentee, they became familiar with others through mentoring than before. Whereas, in the indeterminate state of future corse, except motivating the academic career, the expandable portion in addition to mentoring is limited, due to that they feel the excessive burden of expectation and responsibility. In this case, to relieve these burden and responsibility the coordinator and the youth mentoring program operating part should provide an alternative.
Because this study was conducted by the small number of interviews with th subjects there are limits to generalize it. Despite these limitations, this study has significance in that it provided the possibility to learn how the mentors’ psychosocial maturity is achieved in the youth mentoring program and to examine the factors of face-to-face encounters and maturity.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 청소년 멘토링 프로그램에 참여한 멘토의 질적 성장 요소가 무엇인지를 파악해보고 이를 토대로 멘토가 성장하는데 있어서 필요한 보완점과 개선점을 찾아보고자 하였다. 연구대상은 전국단위의 온라인 멘토링 프로그램을 운영 중인 K청소년멘토링에 참여하는 멘토 9명을 대상으로 질적연구기법에 따라 심층 면담하여 자료를 수집하였다. 면담과정은 모두 축어록으로 작성하였으며, 거리 등의 사정으로 면담이 어려운 경우에는 E-mail을 활용하였다. 수집된 자료는 자료의 영역분석과 분류 분석의 단계를 거쳐 분석하였다. 자료분석을 통해 멘토의 성장에 대한 부분과 보완점과 개선점에 대해 기술하였다.
연구 결과 멘토의 성장에는 관계의 원활함과 나에 대한 만족, 진로에 영향이 있음을 살펴볼 수 있었다. 나에 대한 만족은 자신감을 갖고 자신을 성찰하면서 멘티에게 모범이 되기 위한 노력을 하였으며, 멘토링을 통해 타인과의 어울림이 이 전보다 친숙해졌다. 반면 진로가 미결정 상태인 경우에는 학업 동기부여 외에 멘토링을 펼칠 수 있는 부분이 제한적이며, 지나친 기대로 인해 부담과 책임감을 느끼는 경우가 있다. 이런 경우에는 이러한 부담감과 책임감을 다소 덜 수 있도록 코디네이터와 청소년 멘토링 프로그램을 운영하는 측의 대안 마련이 필요하다.
본 연구에서는 소수의 인원을 대상으로 면담하였기 때문에 이를 일반화하는데 한계가 존재한다. 이러한 한계에도 불구하고 청소년 멘토링 프로그램에서 멘토의 성장이 어떻게 이뤄지고 있는지를 살펴볼 수 있으며, 대면만남과 성장의 요소를 살펴볼 수 있음에 의의를 갖는다.
