Leadership life skill is the ability to use knowledge and skills ; communication, leadership ability, learning skills, self-understanding, group work skill, and the ability of making of decision etc. This is the one of the most important youth's growing-up work to be needed in mutual depending society.
This study started from the theoretical grounds that the development of leadership life skill in adolescence not only enhances self-esteem and self-understanding of youth, but also make them amicable and enterprising in their social life. Furthermore, leadership life skills in adolescence is helpful to prevent the dangerous behaviors of youth and to lead them to the sueccessful adulthood.
Also, this leadership life skills is more developed well in the area of youth organization activities like Scout which present various experience to them. Based on these assumption, this study was to investigate the mediating effect on the relationship of leadership life skill and social support of youth who participated Scout activity. The object of this study is to seek the learning pathway of leadership life skill of adolescents participating Scout activities and examine a direction for programme development of enhancing leadership life skill in Scout.
To achieve this object, I surveyed 400 middle and high school students in the whole country who participating Scout activity. 371 cases of them were analyzed. I used the scales for leadership life skills, social support, self-esteem, self-efficacy variables. The scale of leadership life skills is the one that Lee(2005) modified. It composed the sub 5 concepts of learning ability, becoming leader, group activity, self-understanding, decision making. Through factor analysis I used 18 questions of the 19 questions dropping 4th question due to unfulfill construct validity. The scale of social support used Lee(2005) was also accepted, which composed with 31 questions of parent's support, teacher support, and colleague support. I used 30 questions fulfilling construct validity. 10 questions's self esteem scale I used is the one modified by Choi(2002) originated from Rosenberg(1965). Also I accepted self efficacy scale modified by Lee(2005) and translated by Lee(1994), which was originally developed by Schwarzer. R & Jerusalem. M.(1979). It composed 7 questions. All scales fulfilled the reliability, Cronbach' coefficient alpha was above .70. I analyzed all collecting materials with descriptive statistics, correlation statistics, regression statistics using SPSS 17.0. and AMOS 7.0. for meditating effect.
The major findings of this study were as follows:
First, parent's support as a social support and emotional support and informational support from teacher, colleague effected on leadership life skills of youth, though financial support from parents didn't affect on leadership life skills of them.
Second, self-esteem had a role of partial mediation between parent's support and leadership life skills. it also did complete mediation on relationship between colleague support and leadership life skills. In the case of teacher's support, it affect directly on leadership life skills, but there is no mediating effect.
