The purpose of this study was to examine how parental achievement pressure, achievement motivation and stress management affect Adolescent’s academic burnout. This study also examined the relative influences of the parental pressure, achievement motivation and stress management on the subcategories of the adolescents’ academic burnout. To do so, 427 middle school and high school students were tested by KABI, CISS, IOAM, SOAM and Parental achievement pressure questionnaire.
As results, the academic burnout was explained by the emotion-oriented, task-oriented, individual-aimed achievement motivation, parental achievement pressure, society-aimed achievement motivation and avoidance-oriented.
The structure equation model suggests that emotion-oriented and avoidance-oriented partially mediate the effect of the parental achievement pressure and achievement motivation on the academic burnout while task-oriented does not show any mediation effect. These results show the importance of the active and voluntary achievement motivation and stress management. Parental pressure increase the possibility of the academic burn-out.
