The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of family function and ego-resilience on high school student adjustment. The respondents were 456 students attending two vocational high schools located in Changwon city of Gyeongsangnamdo. The measurements of this study were the Student Adjustment Inventory, Family Function Scale and Ego-Resilience Scale.
The major findings of this study were as follows;
First, there was a high significant correlation between ego-resilience and student adjustment. Particularly, the vitality, curiosity, and interpersonal relationship factors of ego-resilience were identified as significant predictors on the student adjustment.
Second, there was a significant positive relationship between family function and student adjustment. The flexibility factor of family function was found to be most significant predictor of the student adjustment.
Third, the family function and ego-resilience with together were found to be high explain variable of the student adjustment(51.6%). The vitality factor of ego-resilience and flexibility factor of family function were the most explain variable of the student adjustment.
Fourth, the students in high 30% adjustment group showed that the curiosity and interpersonal relationship factors of ego-resilience, and the flexibility factor of family function were most explain variable of the student adjustment. The students in low 30% adjustment group showed same tendency.
On the basis of this research results, it was suggested that the program increasing vitality and curiosity of ego-resilience, and the corporation with family members, self-determination/autonomy in problem solving would be efficient for the student adjustment and guidance. And, it was discussed about the significance and limitations of this study, and the suggestions for further research.
