The purpose of this study is self-focused attention divided into general self-focused attention and self-absorption, and confirmed mediated effect of psychological flexibility between self-focused attention and depression and psychological wellbeing.
The participants of this study are university students and graduate students in Gyungsangnam-do and Gyungsangbuk-do(Average age 22.06, Male 143, Female 206). In the method of research, all subjects were tested with Scale for Dispositional Self-focused Attention in Social situation(SDSAS), K-AAQ, Psychological Well-Being Scale(PWBS), Korea Depression Scale(KDS30). For data analysis, the use of correlational analysis, Structural Equational Modeling(SEM), and model verification.
The results indicate that general self-focused attention was a significantly negative correlation with depression, and significantly positive correlation with psychological wellbeing. self-absorption was a significantly negative correlation with psychological flexibility and psychological wellbeing, whereas significantly positive correlation with depression. Also, General self-focused attention was not significant effects to depression but significantly positive effects to psychological wellbeing. Data analysing mediating effects of relation between self-absorption and depression and psychological wellbeing partly mediated to psychological flexibility.
Based on these findings, additional implications for self-focused attention are discussed. Limitations of the current study and suggestions for future studies also are offered.
