Gears have been used for the purpose of power transmission due to excellent power transmission performance, low cost and compactness. In addition, because gear pair have secure speed ratio, compact structure, excellent efficiency, they are used for many machines including multi-step transmission. In order to transmit higher power, the multi-step transmission will require gears which have greater strength than the existing ones. This study has evaluated the stability and the durability by gear analysis of a multi-step transmission in the commercial vehicles using the Romax designer program. Also, verification for gear strength design is carried out by the analysis results compared with the gear strength theory of the AGMA standard. The bending stress and the contact stress on gears are lower than their allowable stress. As a result, we could evaluate the safety of the gear strength design in a multi-step transmission.
