Many university-attending students are much worried about their employment and carrier as well as academic achievement. That is the task to be solved under the cooperation of individual, society and nation. To solve this employment task, it is important for each student to have alternative strategies for their employment by reacting the matter before accepting it as a social phenomenon. So this study tries to prove that the self-leadership is the capability to wisely deal with the university student's employment matter, and further to recognize the employment strategies levels of students occupying the self-leadership.
For this purpose, the researcher distributed questionaries to 320 students attending on some universities located in Seoul and used the collected 304 copies of questionaries as the data for final analysis.
The findings are summarized as follows:
First, investigating the general levels of university students' self-leadership and their employment strategies, it was appeared that their average self-leadership point was 3.73 (5 point scale), and their average employment point was 3.24 (5 point scale). Looking into the self-leadership by subordinate domains, the most used strategy was to introduce 'natural compensating activity', and the least used strategy was to focus on 'inner compensation'. For the employment strategy, it was appeared that ‘academic credit’ was the best managed, and the ‘active behavior’ had the lowest point.
Second, investigating the difference of self-leadership from the employment strategy according to university students' social, demographic variables, their self-leadership level showed some significant differences according to their credits in general. And they showed significant differences depending on the gender, the leadership experience among the subordinate variables. Also the university students' employment strategies were generally appeared to have significant differences according to the variables of gender, leadership experience, and leadership education. For the employment strategy, there were some significant differences according to the gender, the grade, the leadership experience, and the employment training experience.
Third, looking into the difference between the self-leadership and the employment strategy according to psychological variables, the self-efficacy and university-life satisfaction level made significant differences generally in the self-leadership. It was appeared that the self-efficacy influenced on the all domains of self-leadership. It was appeared that the university life satisfaction level influenced on the all domains excluding the 'self-compensation' and the 'environment setting'.
Fourth, at looking wholly, it was appeared that the group with high self-leadership level had high-level employment strategies compared to the group with low-level self-leadership. It was appeared that the general aspect of self-leadership level influenced all of the subordinate domains of employment strategies, and all of the subordinate domains of self-leadership, except the 'natural compensating activity', influenced employment strategies.
Fifth, as the result analyzing the social & demographic variable, the psychological variable, and the self-leadership's relative influence, it was appeared that the explanation level was increased by each step. And especially, when the self-leadership variable was added, the explanation ability about the employment strategies was improved, so the self-leadership could be proved as an important variable to influence on the employment strategies. Through the above findings, the explanation about this research model could be proved.
This study found that the university student's self-leadership level had some significant influence on the employment strategies. This study expect that experiencing many opportunities to promote the self-leadership in the university times make the students' worry about the carrier and the employment reduce and develop into independent, responsible adults during the course accomplishing their plans and goals.
