The purpose of this study was to examine whether there would be any relationship between subjective happiness and parent's achievement pressure perceived by elementary school students. To achieve the above purpose, three questions were made.
First, are there any differences in the parent's achievement pressure and subjective happiness depending on the area where student lives?
Second, are there any differences in the parent's achievement pressure and subjective happiness depending on the gender of students?
Third, are there any relationships between subjective happiness and the parent's achievement pressure perceived by elementary school students?
The subjects of this study were the 5th grade 495 students sampled from 3 elementary schools in Cheong-ju, Jin-chon and Bo-eun area. The questionaire made by Mr. Kang, young-chel(2003) were used for measuring the parent's achievement pressure and the check list made by Ms. Lee, Jung-ha(2005) were used for measuring subjective happiness.
The data was processed by a program of SPSS 15.0 and analyzed by t-test.
The major results of this study were as following;.
First, there was no significant difference in parent's achievement pressure and subjective happiness depending on the area where student lives.
Second, there was a significant difference in parent's achievement pressure by the gender of elementary school student. The parent's achievement pressure perceived by male students was higher than that of female students. But, there was no significant difference in subjective happiness by the gender of students.
Third, there were significant relationships between subjective happiness and parents' achievement pressure perceived by elementary school students.
These results of the research show that subjective happiness is higher when parents' achievement pressure was perceive lowly by elementary school students. Then, creating the home and school environments to heighten the happiness and to form the healthy personality of elementary school should be more emphasized.
