Educational facilities are the measure of community facilities; it not only has the function of education but also has enough potential to operate as the center of living.

    ThisstudyexaminesthepresentstateofEducationalandlocalpublicfacilitiesandaimstoproposetheframeworkanddirectionsfortheMixed-useofEducationalfacilitiestobeusedasthemainfacilityofthelocalcommunity.
As the 7th Educational Curriculum enforced in 2000 projected its aim as ‘Open Education Society, Lifelong Learning Society’, it was made possible that school buildings are shared as local public facilities and take on the role of the space for local people’s lifelong learning through establishing the link with the local community.
    Todate,however,Educationalfacilitiesfailedtotakeintoaccounttheactiveconnectionwiththelocalsocietyinitseducationalcurriculum,andtoactivelycorrespondtothelocalneedforlifelonglearningastheylackedinfacilities,programs,andprofessionalhumanresources.
On the other hand, public facilities failed to build facilities at the right time and right place since they have been facing difficulties in securing sites due to the high price of the land. Additionally, the use of public facilities overlaps that of the Educational facilities because of their close location. In the case of the public institutions that run various educational programs for lifelong learning and are highly accessible due to their vicinity of school buildings, the Mixed-use with Educational facilities can be the alternative that improves educational, societal, and economical issues.

From looking at the categorization of the Educational and Public facilities, it can be seen thatthe separation of administration systems and the unsatisfactory legal system areresulting in the individual establishment and management for most of the public facilities located near Educational facilities. Especially while Gangnam-gu, the selected site, needs urgent solution for the lack of parking space, only passive Mixed-uses are being made despite sufficient budget, and the centralization of the high-rise residential development is causing the Educational and local institutions to be concentrated in the same neighborhood.
This study analyzed the possibility of the Mixed-used of Educational and local public facilities, concentrating on the ones that are currently being run in Gangnam-gu, and classified the public facilities that can become the Mixed-use Educational facilities. In order to figure out the possibility of Mixed-use of Educational and public facilities, the adequate using area which have been suggested in the literature was put to use; two areas were set up, and the facilities that fall into the first using area was selected as the prioritized target facility for Mixed-use.

This study looked at the possibility of the Mixed-use of Educational and public facilities based on the experimental analysis on theusing area of the current state of schools and public facilities management. For the success of Mixed-use of educational facilities, discussion between various parties at the planning stage, the analysis of the demand of facilities suggested by the local residents, and reform on administration and legal system need to be achieved altogether.
