A Study on Significance of “12 UnSeoung ”(十二運星)
in“Myung-ri”(命理) Theory.

This thesis mainly focuses on the study of “12UnSeoung theory” by analyzing at the issues and cases that concern the significance of Myungrihak. “12Unseoung theory” is the logic that makes clear the cyclical process of creation and extinction by explaining the ways of the spirit. It also explains the dynamics of ‘Rise and fall’ by distinguishing between Yin and Yang; the positive and the negative for five elements. There are two theories that exist. One is “Um-seng-um-sa” or “Yang-seng-um-sa” which means that Yang lives while Yin dies and vice-versa. And the other is “Um-yang-dong-seng-dong-sa” which explains that there is no distinction between Yin and Yang and only the circulation principle is applicable.
There is a need to understand “12UnSeoung theory” with regards to the principle of “Um-seng-um-sa” and “Um-seng-yang-sa” because “12UnSeoung theory” distinguishes between Yang and Yin for the five elements and the changes that occur when Yan or Yin are in the extremes.
Furthermore, this study is not limited only to theory of “Wang-sang-hyu-su-sa” but also applies to the saju-myungrihak, and shall be important materials that can contribute to the development of oriental science studies.
