Holistic character building is crucial for adolescents. Community members without building an upright character have no choice but to cause unproductive results in both individual or social respects. Schools encourage students in volunteer works that have been performed in advanced countries in order to develop their characters through experiencing various social activities in local community. However, once the students fulfill their obligatory or recommendatory hour of volunteer work at middle or high schools, they tend to stop spending their time on volunteer work. Accordingly, previous studies on improving this matter have been performed mainly focusing on motivation, continuity, and satisfaction for enhancing the participation of the juvenile students in volunteer work. Still, the effect on holistic character building and enhancement of participation in volunteer work is inadequate in comparison to that of advanced countries. Thus, this study attempts to apply overall and spiritual methodologies that have been studied in the countries advanced in social welfare. In holistic respect, assuming that spirituality has a positive influence on their volunteer work, understanding on juvenile volunteer workers can work as the factor for improving the participation in volunteer work, together with social and psychological factors. This study bases on an assumption that spirituality correlates with motivation for volunteer work, and examines the correlation between them and its influence. This thesis surveys 381 students of Incheon-si such as 252 students from 2 middle schools and 129 students from 6 high schools; excluding 42 sheets with insufficient answers, 339 sheets are used for statistical analysis. SPSS 18.0 is applied for data analysis; frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, variance analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis are also applied. The followings are the results of analysis. Regarding the correlation between the main variables, the analysis shows a positive correlation between spirituality and motivation for volunteer work within the range of p<.01. In the analysis of the factors that influence on volunteer work, religious spirituality and existential spirituality have positive influence on motivation for volunteer work. The result of this statistical analysis that juvenile students with higher spirituality tend to have more of the 7 items low ranked in motivation for volunteer work, indicates its practical significance as preliminary data for drawing more attention to juvenile spirituality. With regard to standardized regression coefficient, the analysis shows that spirituality has an influence on motivation for volunteer work, which suggests grounds for using spirituality at schools as a way of performing various social welfare contents in order to encourage continuous participation of juvenile volunteer work.

미래의 주인공인 청소년들에게 있어서 전인적인 인격형성은 매우 중요한 과제이다. 올바른 인격형성이 전제 되어 있지 않고서는 사회구성원으로서 살아가는데 개인적으로나 사회적으로 비생산적인 결과를 초래 할 수 밖에 없다. 이에 대해 올바른 인성을 함양하기 위해 학교현장에서는 선진국에서 시도되고 있는 자원봉사활동을 시행하였다. 관건은 학교에 재학 할 때는 주어진 시간을 채우기 위해서 활동을 하지만 시간을 이수하거나 학교를 졸업하게 되면 활동을 중단하는 비율이 높게 나타난다는데 있다. 이를 개선하기 위한 청소년의 자원봉사활동에 대한 선행연구가 자원봉사활성화를 목적으로 한 동기나 지속성, 만족도에 관한 연구가 많이 이루어졌다. 그럼에도 청소년의 자원봉사활동 활성화와 효과는 사회복지선진국에 비하여 부족한 수준이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 사회복지선진국에서 연구되어 지고 있는 총체적인 접근방법, 영성적 접근방법을 시도하였다. 전인적인 측면에서 영성이 자원봉사활동에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다면 사회적, 심리적인 요인과 함께 청소년 자원봉사자들에 대한 이해와 그들의 강점을 살려서 자원봉사활동을 활성화 시키는 요인으로 받아들여 질 것으로 본다. 여기에 대한 본 연구는 영성이 자원봉사활동의 동기와 관계가 있을 것이라는 가정에 초점을 두고 청소년의 영성이 자원봉사활동 동기에 어떤 상관관계가 있으며, 어떤 영향을 미치는가에 대한 연구를 하였다. 그리고 본 연구의 자료수집을 위해 인천광역시 학교 청소년을 대상으로 설문조사하여 수집된 자료는 중학교 2곳 252부, 고등학교 6곳 129부, 총 381부 중에서 답변이 불충분한 42를 제외한 339부를 통계분석에 이용하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS 18.0을 이용하여 빈도분석, 기술통계, t-test, 분산분석, 상관관계분석, 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 주요 변수들 간의 상관관계 연구에서 영성이 자원봉사활동 동기전체와 정적(+)으로 p<.01 수준에서 유의한 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 자원봉사활동에 어떠한 요인이 영향을 미치는지 살펴본 결과, 자원봉사활동 동기전체에는 수평적(존재적) 영성(β=.378)과 수직적(종교적) 영성(β=.298)이 각각 정(+)적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 통계적으로 유의미하게 학교 청소년의 영성이 높을수록 자원봉사활동 동기 7가지 하위 요인이 높아진다는 연구결과는 청소년의 영성에 적극적인 관심을 가져야하는 필요성 인식을 위한 기초 자료로 활용된다는데 그 실천적 함의를 찾을 수 있다. 표준화된 회귀계수를 살펴보면 영성이 자원봉사활동 동기에 영향을 미치는 것으로 조사되었는데, 이것은 학교청소년들의 자원봉사의 지속적인 참여를 확대하기 위해서는 학교 현장에서도 교과 과정에 영성을 활용할 수 있는 다양한 사회복지 실천 방법의 내용을 첨가 할 근거를 제시하였다고 할 수 있다.
