지속적 아침 독서 프로그램이 독서 태도와 독서 동기에 미치는 영향 : 초등학교 5학년 학생을 대상으로 = (The) effects of SSR on the fifth graders' reading attitude and reading motivation

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 초등학교 5학년 학생들을 대상으로 지속적 아침 독서 프로그램을 적용한 후 학생들의 독서 태도와 독서 동기에 미치는 영향을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있으며 이를 달성하기 위하여 설정한 연구 문제는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 지속적 아침 독서 프로그램이 초등학교 5학년 학생들의 독서 태도에 영향을 미치는가?
둘째, 지속적 아침 독서 프로그램이 초등학교 5학년 학생들의 독서 동기에 영향을 미치는가?
연구 대상은 2개 반을 선정하여 실험집단에서는 지속적 아침 독서 프로그램을 진행하였고, 통제집단에서는 일반적인 아침 자습 시간을 갖게 한 후 독서 태도와 독서 동기의 변화를 살펴보았다. 프로그램은 매일 아침 10분을 활용하여 2011년 3월 15일부터 7월 16일까지 18주 동안 진행하였다. 초등학생용 독서 태도 검사지와 독서 동기 검사지를 이용해 각각 사전․사후 검사를 실시하여 두 집단 간의 차이를 t검증하였으며 연구를 통해 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 지속적 아침 독서 프로그램은 독서 태도 향상에 효과가 있었다.
둘째, 지속적 아침 독서 프로그램은 독서 동기 향상에 효과가 있었다.
이 연구 결과를 통해 다음과 같은 결론을 내릴 수 있었다.
첫째, 학생들이 책을 읽을 시간이 부족한 가운데 즐거운 독서 경험을 제공하는 이 프로그램은 독서습관을 형성하는 시기인 초등학생들의 독서 지도에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있음을 시사한다.
둘째, 학생들이 바람직한 독서 활동을 지속하기 위해서는 교사의 관심과 학부모의 협조, 학급 문고 지원 등이 필요하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of Sustained Silent Reading(referred to as SSR later) on students' reading attitude and motivation after the program has been targeted at children in fifth grade.

To achieve the objective, two subjects for inquiry were selected as follows.
Firstly, How influential is SSR on the fifth graders' reading attitude?
Secondly, How influential is SSR on the fifth graders' reading motivation?

The subject of in this research, two groups were classified as an experimental group and a control group respectively, and the members in the experimental group were required to participate in SSR while the ones in the control group weren't. Then, examination deals with changes to the two groups of students' reading attitude and motivation before and after the reading program.
SSR had been brought into practice for ten minutes before the first class started each day over eighteen weeks, more accurately, from March 15th, 2011 to July 16th in the same year. The effect of the program was measured with pre-, post-tests using the 'Elementary Reading Attitude Survey and Reading Motivation Survey'. I took a t test on the materials after producing the average and standard deviation depending on research questions.

The findings of this study are as follows.

Firstly, SSR proved to be effective in enhancing students' reading attitude.
Secondly, SSR proved to be effective in enhancing students' reading motivation.


The following conclusion can be drawn based on the study findings.

Firstly, amid the situation that students have difficulty setting aside time for reading, this reading program can be effectively used at elementary schools in which it is very crucial for the growing students to form decent reading habits.
Secondly, it takes long-term efforts to make a desirable reading attitude. Therefore, various supports are needed to help students to be engaged in SSR on a regular basis.
