To investigate the relation between child-rearing attitudes of mothers and the self-concepts and creativity of children, this research analyzes the differences of the self-concepts and creativity among children according to child-rearing attitudes of mothers.
To this purpose, the specific research problems are as followings.
Research Problem 1, are there differences on the self-concepts of children according to child-rearing attitudes of mothers?
Research Problem 2, are there differences of creativity(creative capabilities, creative characters) of children according to child-rearing attitudes of mothers?
Research Problem 3, are there differences of the self-concepts and creativity of children according to background-related variables of mothers?
Research Problem 4, what is the relation between the child-rearing attitudes of mothers and self-concepts, creativity(creative capabilities, creative characters) of children?
The subjects of this research are 5-year-old children of 3 kindergartens in Gyeonggi-Do and their mothers, 126 people in each group, and Moon-joo Bae’s ‘Parenting Questionaries’(2005), ‘Self-concept Test for children’ developed by Kyung-Hwa Lee and Jin-Young Koh (2006), and ‘Integrated Creativity Test for children’ by Kyung-Hwa Lee (2011) are used to examine the child-rearing attitudes of mothers.
To analyze data, we evaluate the general aspects of the subjects of the research, then to investigate the differences of the self-concepts and creativity among children according to the background-related variables and child-rearing attitudes of mothers, t-test and F-test are implemented. To investigate the relation between the self-concepts, creativity of children and the child-rearing attitudes of mothers, Pearson’s product-moment correlation analysis is implemented.
The results of this research can be summarized as follows.
First, it shows that there is no statistically significant difference of the self-concepts among children according to child-rearing attitudes of mothers.
Second, it shows that there is no statistically significant difference of creativity among children according to child-rearing attitudes of mothers.
Third, as we regard the differences of self-concepts and creativity among children according to the background-related variables of mothers, it shows statistically significant differences of mathematical self-concepts among children according to ages of mothers, and physical self-concepts in addition to lingtuistic creativity according to academic backgrounds of mothers. I.e., children of mothers under thirties or forties show higher mathematical self-concepts than children of mothers over 40, children of mothers of high school graduate show the highest physical self-concept, and the children of mothers from graduate schools show the highest linguistic creativity.
Fourth, child-rearing attitudes of mothers mostly have a significant positive relationship to the self-concepts and creativity of children.
The research result shows that the background-related variables and child-rearing attitudes of mothers partly have influences on the self-concepts and creativity of children.
