The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relationships among a conflict resolution strategy, internet addiction propensity, and school adjustment in middle school students participating in family sports leisure activity. Using the stratified cluster random sampling method, 600 students were selected for this study based on gender and academic grades from Gyunggi-do and Daejeon Metropolitan city. A total of 6 hundred questionnaires were distributed to the subjects, but only 587 questionnaires were collected. After excluding 12 questionnaires, 575 questionnaires were used for the analysis. The questionnaires were consisted of Conflict Resolution Strategy(Ha, 2004), Internet Addiction Propensity(Kim, 2002), and School Adjustment(Min, 1991). To test the reliability of tools which were used in this study, prior to the research, the populations were selected, then the construct validity test was used to test the validity of this study. Exploratory factor analysis was used to verify the construct validity, and principal component analysis was used to identify relevant variables and meaningful process. Varimaxrotation was used to simplify factor structure. Descriptive data were expressed as mean±standard deviation(SD) for all variables. After creating the causal model of family leisure activity participation, the Internet addiction propensity, and school adjustment, a path analysis and structure model were analyzed. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 4.0 for Windows and all comparisons were made at the p<0.05 level of significance. The social characteristics results of this study showed that gender did not affect the school adjustment, but their grade affected the school adjustment. And also, the frequency of family sports leisure activity did not make a change in school adjustment. However, the period of family sports leisure activity affected the school adjustment. For the conflict resolution strategy, the average for the group of participating in family sports leisure activity was higher than the non-participation. This difference was significant(p<.05). It was also showed that the Internet addiction propensity was significantly decreased in the participating in family sports leisure activity (p<.05). There was a statistically significant difference in the school adjustment according to participation in the family sports leisure activity(p<.05). And also, there were correlations among the family sports leisure activity participation, the conflict resolution strategy, the Internet addiction propensity, and the school adjustment. This result indicated that the family sport leisure activity participation directly affected the conflict resolution strategy, the Internet addiction propensity, and the school adjustment. The conflict resolution strategy and the Internet addiction propensity also directly affected the school adjustment. Moreover, the family sports leisure activity participation affected the school adjustment by influencing the conflict resolution strategy and the Internet addiction propensity. The cause and effect results showed that direct effects were the effect of the participation in family sports leisure activity on the school adjustment(β=.220), the effect of the conflict resolution strategy on the school adjustment(β=.363), and the effect of the Internet addiction propensity on the school adjustment(β=.301). On the other hand, indirect effects were the effect of the participation in family sports leisure activity through the conflict resolution strategy on the school adjustment[.486×.363=.176] and the Internet addiction propensity on the school adjustment [.486×.301=.146]. The causal effect of the sum of direct and indirect effect was β=1.206. Based on the results, the participating in the family sports leisure activity was a major factor affecting the conflict resolution strategy, the Internet addiction propensity, and the school adjustment in middle school students.
