결혼이민자의 학부모 역할 수행을 위한 읽기 자료 개발 방안 = Development of Reading Materials for Married Immigrants's Role Performance as School Parents

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to suggest how to develop reading materials that can help married immigrants perform their role as school parents.
Even any married immigrants who can speak korean fluently can suffer from performing the role of school parents when they don't have enough information and understanding about education system, school culture or school term. These kind of difficulties can seriously impinge on the study, friendship and even humanity of their child.
So this study is fulfilled to help married immigrants who are experiencing difficulties perform their role as parents of students. It suggested to develop reading materials to help married immigrants improve the understanding of school brochure and school newsletters provided by education office in-local or schools.
Discussion of this study was performed in the following way.
First of all, it showed the result of measuring how much the married immigrant women can understand school newsletters. And then it proposed the points to be considered when they develop reading materials based on this result. 51 married immigrants took part in this test. It proved that even beginner level respondents could improve their ability to identify critical information when they were repeatedly exposed to various school newsletter and they used simple reading strategies.
Second, school newsletters were categorized by distribution date, subject and the type of text. And it drew a conclusion that the topic-based approach is the most efficient for the reading materials. Especially the topic extracted from school newsletters distributed in March and April were most frequent and important. For the simple announcement, it's better to focus on detecting keyword and critical information. On the other hand, for the school newsletters demanding a reply, appropriate examples should be provided to improve the writing ability.
It examined the content of existing school brochure. Most of the school brochure didn't fully explain the school system. And those were composed mainly of descriptive texts, so it made more difficult to understand the content.
Finally, it suggested the way that develope reading materials based on the results of previous chapters, and it showed the practical reading material about field trip for example. The reading materials were composed of practical contents that married immigrants need to know as school parent. It include education system, school culture and various special terms used just in school. It will help married immigrants improve their interpretation skill and participate more actively in their children's school life. Furthermore, it will help migrated school parents improve their writing skill. and widen their understanding of korean culture as well as school culture.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국에 오래 거주하여 한국어를 능숙하게 구사하는 여성 결혼이민자라 할지라도 교육제도나 학교문화, 학교용어에 익숙하지 않으면 학부모로서의 역할을 수행하는 데 어려움을 겪는다. 이러한 어려움은 자녀들의 학업이나 교우관계 심지어 인성에까지 심각한 영향을 미칠 수 있다.
본 연구는 이러한 어려움을 겪고 있는 이들이 학부모로서의 역할을 수행하는 데 도움을 주고자 하는 목적으로 수행되었다. 그 방안의 한 가지로서 현재 교육청이나 학교에서 제공하는 각종 학교안내서와 안내문, 가정통신문의 이해력 향상을 돕는 읽기 자료를 개발할 것을 제안했다.
본 연구의 논의는 다음과 같은 방법으로 진행하였다.
1장에서는 연구 목적과 필요성을 간단히 밝혔다. 그리고 여성 결혼이민자를 위한 한국어 교육에 관한 연구 중 한국어 읽기 교육 및 텍스트에 관한 연구, 읽기 학습 전략에 관한 연구, 가정통신문 관련 연구의 세 부분으로 나누어 선행 연구들을 살펴보았다.
2장에서는 여성 결혼이민자를 대상으로 가정통신문의 이해도를 측정한 결과를 제시하고, 실험을 통해 알게 된 결과 바탕으로 읽기 자료 구성 시 고려할 점을 살펴보았다.
여성 결혼이민자 51명을 대상으로 4차례에 걸쳐 실험을 실시한 결과 처음에는 주제어조차 찾기 힘들어했던 초급 학습자들도 가정통신문에 대한 반복된 노출과 간단한 읽기 전략 활용만으로도 핵심내용을 파악해내는 능력을 향상시킬 수 있었음을 확인하였다.
3장에서는 학교에서 수시로 배부하는 가정통신문을 배부 시기별, 주제별로 분류해보고, 그 유형과 텍스트 유형에 대해 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 3~4월에 배부되는 가정통신문의 주제를 중심으로 읽기 자료를 구성하면 효율적이라는 결론을 도출하였다. 단순 정보를 전달하는 가정통신문은 주제어와 핵심내용 파악을 위주로 구성하고, 회신을 요구하는 것은 회신서를 작성하는 능력까지 키울 수 있도록 적절한 예시를 제공하는 것이 바람직하다는 결론을 도출했다. 더불어 가정통신문의 이해를 어렵게 하는 요소들을 분석하고 이해하기 쉬운 가정통신문 작성 방안을 제시하였다.
그리고 기존의 학교생활 안내서들이 어떤 내용을 담고 있는지 살펴보았다. 대부분의 학교생활 안내서는 학교의 제도를 충분히 설명하고 있지 못하며, 주로 설명형 텍스트로 구성되어 있어서 내용을 쉽게 이해하기 힘들었다. 특히 생활한국어식의 안내서는 실제적인 정보와 연관시켜 익히기 어려운 점이 있었다.
4장에서는 2장과 3장의 결과를 바탕으로 읽기 자료를 구성하는 방안을 제시하고, ‘현장체험학습’을 주제로 실제 읽기 자료의 구성 예를 보여주었다.
학교생활 이해를 위한 읽기 자료는 여성 결혼이민자가 한국의 교육체계나 학교의 제도를 이해하고 가정통신문 해석 능력을 향상시켜 자녀의 학교생활에 보다 적극적으로 참여하기 위해 알아야 할 내용들을 담도록 구성했다. 나아가 학교생활에 필요한 학부모로서의 쓰기 능력을 향상시키는 것을 돕고 학교문화 뿐만 아니라 한국 문화에 대한 이해를 넓히는 데에도 기여하도록 했다. 읽기 자료는 주제 중심으로 구성하다는 것이 바람직하다는 판단 하에 읽는 목적에 부합되는 적절한 읽기 전략을 스스로 개발해 유창하고 정확하게 내용을 파악할 수 있는 연습을 할 수 있도록 하는 자료로 구성하고, 독학자를 위한 읽기 자료인 만큼 보다 효율적으로 내용을 이해할 수 있도록 자료를 배치할 것, 내용 파악이 끝난 후에는 학습을 위한 활동이 포함되도록 할 것, 실제적 자료를 중심으로 읽기 자료를 구성할 것, 다양한 유형의 가정통신문을 사례로 제시하여 가정통신문의 유형별 구조와 특성을 관찰하게 할 것, 학교 문화를 넘어서 한국 문화에 대한 이해를 증진시키고 지식을 넓힐 수 있는 내용을 포함할 것, 어휘 목록을 작성하여 단계적으로 제시할 것을 제안하였다. 그리고 ‘현장체험학습’을 주제로 실제 읽기 자료를 구성한 예를 보여주었다.
5장 결론에서는 본 연구를 간략하게 정리하고 연구의 의의 및 제한점에 대해 서술하였다.
본고에서 제안한 실제적인 자료로 구성된 읽기 자료를 통하여 학부모들은 자녀가 취학하기 전에는 접하기 어려웠던 학교용어나 통신문ㆍ안내문의 형식에 익숙해지고, 스스로 읽기 전략을 개발하여 실제 텍스트의 내용을 보다 빠르고 정확하게 이해하여 자녀들의 학교생활에 긍정적인 도움을 줄 수 있기를 기대한다.
