    Major in Early Childhood Education
    Dept. of Education
    The Graduate School
    Chonbuk National University

The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of movement activities based on fairy tales on the creativity of preschoolers. The following research questions were posed:
    1. How does a movement program based on fairy tales affect the creativity development of preschoolers?
    2. How does a movement program based on fairy tales affect their fluency?
    3. How does a movement program based on fairy tales affect their flexibility?
    4. How does a movement program based on fairy tales affect their originality?
    5. How does a movement program based on fairy tales affect their imagination?
The subjects in this study were 40 preschoolers in two different classes of Western age 5 in H private kindergarten located in the city of Jeonju, North Jeolla Province. An experimental group and a control group were organized with 20 preschoolers each. The experimental group listened to fairy tales and represented the unique facial expression of motion of the characters 16 times during six-week period of time. The control group members listened to the same fairy tales and then just talked about the fairy tales with one another.
After a pilot test was carried out, training was provided to the selected investigators, and a pretest was implemented. And then a posttest was conducted after an experiment was implemented.
The instrument used to evaluate the creativity of the preschoolers was Jeon Kyung-won(2000)'s Korean Comprehensive Creativity Test for Young Children(K-CCTYC). As for data analysis, the statistical package SPSS was employed to make a t-test to look for any possible gaps between the pretest and posttest scores of the two groups.
The major findings of the study were as follows:
First, as a result of analyzing the impact of the movement activities by fairy tales on the creativity of the preschoolers, the movement activities were found to make a statistically significant difference to their creativity. The experimental group showed a better improvement in creativity than the control group.
Second, as a result of analyzing the influence of the movement activities by fairy tales on the fluency of the preschoolers, the movement activities were found to make a statistically significant difference to their fluency. The experimental group made a better progress in fluency than the control group.
Third, as a result of analyzing the influence of the movement activities by fairy tales on the flexibility of the preschoolers, the movement activities were found to make a statistically significant difference to their flexibility. The experimental group showed a better improvement in flexibility than the control group.
Fourth, as a result of analyzing the impact of the movement activities by fairy tales on the originality of the preschoolers, the movement activities were found to make a statistically significant difference to their originality. The experimental group made a better progress in originality than the control group.
Fifth, as a result of analyzing the impact of the movement activities by fairy tales on the imagination of the preschoolers, the movement activities were found to make a statistically significant difference to their imagination. The experimental group showed a better improvement in imagination than the control group.
In conclusion, the movement activities that gave a chance for the preschoolers to listen to the fairy tales and represent the facial expression and roles of the characters were more effective at fostering the creativity and its subfactors of the preschoolers than merely reading fairy tales to them.
The findings of the study suggest that early childhood education institutions should take diverse approaches to boost the creativity of preschoolers.
