ABSTRACT

This thesis is a study on the development plan of musical dance education and its educational expected effect through the musical activity, and conducted an analysis of guidelines of musical dance education through after-school musical class administered in the elementary school. This study targeted the after-school musical lecturer of the elementary school in Busan, and investigated the role of musical dance and dance education used in class. Selecting just one school that had the after-school musical class, this study observed the case of after-school musical activity for 1 year of 2010. Through the actual case of elementary after-school musical activity, the current state of its musical dance education was identified, and this thesis intends to give suggestions for the development of musical dance education through the survey on 20 students who actually participated in the class.
This thesis examined if the musical activity has various educational effect in the school and demonstrated that it made students create various changes positively. The result is summarized as follows.
First, the dance education in the after-school musical class was categorized as the jazz dance, pop dance, stretching, and mastering hands and feet position in ballet. Second, the active and independent learning activity through the after- school musical class had an effect which increases the interest and will for the learning by giving them confidence and initiative in every class. Third, the work activity of after-school musical class reflected a spirit of teamwork and intimacy among children, and the teamwork was remarkable in the dance education in the musical class, while in relationship, the friendship of children was improved. Fourth, it formed the positive and active self by making a sense of duty.

This result implies that the dance education in the after-school musical class administered only the functional education which excluded creativity and expression. With the musical class, children was helped to have the initiative for having interest in a new challenge or field rather than fear, and as a result of examining the actual case and interviews of musical lecturer of the after-school musical, the musical performance in elementary work-shop has the exceptional importance in the area of dance, while the various changes in dance composition played a role to make children learn a spirit of teamwork. the children became to have a positive attitude with confidence by realizing a sense of duty and importance of their existence through the work-shop(school arts festival).

Currently, the musical education in Korea is something unfamiliar with the lack of its relevant systematic study and materials. Based on the study of actual case of the after-school elementary musical class, the musical dance education, though it is most important, merely concentrated on the functional education, and the musical lecturer also had a difficulty to find which way to pursue. In the follow-up study, based on the result drawn by the actual case, it is needed to supplement the study with the professionals for the teaching plan considering the educational effect of musical, and the dance education in the musical should not be confined to mastering the choreography as the functional education but have a role of rhythm education, creativity and education for better expression.
