The purpose of this study is to analyze the resilience developmental factors for the students who have dropped out of the regular schools. For this purpose, the researcher sampled those attending Sung-ji Alternative High School.Preceding studies suggest that school maladjustment is not distinctive qualitatively but varies between perfect adjustment and extreme school maladjustment. In addition, school maladjustment in our modern society is not equal to such determinate delinquencies as violence or drug addiction but equated with poor school performance, rejection of the uniform college-oriented education, frequent lateness or absence, resisting attitudes, complaint about school or teachers, violation of school rules or other poor school adjustment. In this study, such school maladjustments are reduced to individuals' lack of resilience. 'Resilience' means 'tendency to return' or 'ability to recover.' If students should recover their functions despite hardships or difficulties, they would succeed in adapting themselves to their school life even if they suffer from such hardships or difficulties. From such perspective, our society is increasingly concerned about the factors helping those school maladjustment students who drop out of the school to adapt themselves to the school life and finish their school through their experiences of the readjustment educational institutions like Sung-ji Alternative School. Thus, the researcher conducted a qualitative study on such factors developing the school maladjustment students' resilience by sampling those attending Sung-ji Alternative School. To this end, the researcher classified the factors deemed to help develop school maladjustment students' resilience into personal, parents' and school factors and analyzed the effects of each factor on development of their resilience. The results of this study can be summed up as follows;First, as personal factors, the customized education in consideration of individual students' traits and the education using the multi-intelligence to enhance students' pride were found to help the school maladjustment students and those with lower school performance to develop their self-respect and thereby, improve their resilience.Second, as parents' factors, the adaptation to school life through recovery of parent-child relationship would enhance the parent-child attachment which could be mediated by school and teachers to enhance school-maladjusted students' resilience.Third, as school factor, the curriculum differentiated from those of the regular schools and the diversified activities of experiences as well as the active school counseling programs would help the school maladjustment students to change their personality. In addition, the financial supports through scholarship programs and the positive school environment would help to construct a trustworthy relationship between students and teachers to improve students' resilience. This study confirmed that the students attending the alternative school playing a role of readjusting them had relatively lower level of maladjustment, and that even if they should drop out of the school due to their maladjustment to school life, they would successfully adapt themselves to their school life if the factors developing their resilience should be enhanced.
