    1. Roof garden environment in winter season
For the roof garden environment in winter, the present study examined the vegetation environment and species in gardens through the on-site surveys in winter and summer and the vegetation drawings in 18 places of Seoul, focusing on the cases in which at least 3 to 5 years had passed, with 2 years alloted to the repair period after the building of each roof garden.
Specifically, there was a study of afforestation purposes, vegetation state, existence of vegetable gardens and use of outsiders as well as a comparison of the vegetation species in between drawings and winter gardens. According to the results, gardens were used for rest, learning, vegetation treatment and environment improvement and poor growth occurred regardless of management type in 7 places, while good and normal growths were seen in 6 and 5 places, respectively.
There were higher interest in plants and higher recognition of vegetation management, pest control and fertilization. Though there was no vegetable garden in roof garden drawings, other plants were better managed in the places built later.

    2. Management of Plants and Facilities in Roof Gardens during Winter
People can enjoy 1-3, 4-6, 7-10, 10-13 and 14 or more species of plants in 50%, 28%, 11.1%, 5.6% and 5.6%, respectively, of roof gardens during winter in Seoul. Such representative plants are Pinus densiflora and Taxus cuspidate among evergreen trees, Coruns alba among deciduous trees, and Pachysandra terminalis among herbaceous plants, but only 1-3 species are enjoyable, showing that species are meager in number. Above all, it was necessary to recognize the importance of regular water management for evergreens during winter. “Direct management,” “commissioned and resident management,” “management limited to plants,” and “no management” accounted for 28%, 22%, 17% and 11%, respectively, of roof gardens during winter. “One”, “two” and “no” resident manager was employed by 56%, 33% and 11%, respectively, of roof gardens during winter.

    3. Evaluation after use of roof gardens
The study examined the visitor satisfaction according to the components of the roof garden by using visitor survey on the visiting motivation, facilities, plant management, function and environment, circulation and accessibility.
The satisfaction evaluation was conducted with 304 visitors who visited 18 roof gardens supported by Seoul City.
The survey results showed that the visiting motivation did not play a key role in total satisfaction, which had little significant effect (β=0.236) according to the simple regression analysis, in contrast with the result of facilities (β=0.609), plant management (β=0.623), function and environment (β=0.595), and circulation and accessibility (β=0.679) that were highly significant components in the total satisfaction. Based on the analysis result that circulation and accessibility (β=0.679) had the most significant effects on the satisfaction compared to other components, accessibility was considered the most effective component on the visit and the satisfaction factors of the roof garden.
According to the results of multiple regression analysis of the effects of the satisfaction components on the total satisfaction of the roof garden, the priority order was as follows: circulation and accessibility (β=0.348), facilities (β=0.178), function and environment (β=0.173), and plant management (β=0.153).
