The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of the career barriers on the career decision level of female delinquents staying at the reformatory(training school). Added to this, the study is to provide a fundamental data in building up the effective career guidance composed of the content and method for the female delinquents'.
The subjects in this study were 133 female delinquents staying at the reformatory located in An-yang, Gyeong-gido. The questions were composed of two scales, which are Career-Decision Scale and Career Barriers Inventory, and revised accordingly that the participants of this study could easily understand.
The Data analysis was conducted through SPSS 17.0 & 18.0 Statistics, and as the method of analysis, Frequency, Percentile, Mean, correlation analysis, one-way ANOVA, multiple regression(stepwise method) were used to analyze the data.
The result of this study are as follows.
First, among the sub-factors of the Career Barriers, the internal factors included 'Uncertainty about the future', 'The lack of self-understanding', 'The lack of confidence' were perceived more than the external factors by the female delinquents.
Second, the female delinquents showed a relatively high level of career decision. Compared to other groups from previous studies, the career decision level from the female delinquents in this study were relatively higher than other groups' level.
Third, the total level of perceived career barriers from the female delinquents appeared to affect to the career decision level which was significant statistically. That is, the higher level of perceived career barriers the female delinquents perceive, the lower career decision level they would have.
Fourth, all the internal factors among the career barriers of the sub-factors perceived by the female delinquents affected to the career decision level significantly. Among the internal factors of the career barriers, 'The lack of self-understanding' has influence on the female delinquents' career decision level the most.
Fifth, among the external factors of the career barriers, 'The lack of career preparation' factor has been found as the factor that influences the female delinquents' career decision level the most.
Lastly, according to the sociological characteristics, there was no difference in both the perceived career barriers and career decision level of
female delinquents.
Based on the results of this study, the following recommendations were suggested for the future research:
First, both of the education and service for the female delinquents should not be consist of the limited and general contents at the level of mere information, but the substantive and helpful contents focused on individual's interests, abilities.
Second, based on the result of accurate analysis and understanding about the high career decision level of female delinquents, the career coaching and education have to be implemented which could bring the positive effects.
Third, there has to be the special training and educational support for the specialists, such as teachers, youth workers, and social workers who take care of the female delinquents daily to develop their knowledge and skills related to the career coaching and education.
Fourth, in further studies, the quantitative research has to be conducted with the qualitative research at the same time. there has been founded a wide deviation among the subjects in this study. Therefore, it is important to identify the specific reasons of this deviation to improve the accurate understanding of the differences among the individuals.
Fifth, it is necessary to design the stricter research plan to draw the generalized results and conclusions from related studies.
