The central and local governments execute various policy to accomplish the Balanced National Development and to expand financial affairs of local government. Under these circumstances, a local governments also regard their local festival as the article of commerce and, using it as strategy, they make the local festival its own culture and character, and then tend to use it as a good chances to boost regional economic development and PR.
As a matter of fact, the most of local festival only carried out limited PR role, which could not give them satisfied ripple effect to the local industrial development and economic promotion. Actually, it seems that the most of local governments and people also have a poor recognition about the local branding which can give them the development of their potential energy and regional character. Under these circumstances, they make it as their own identity and attractive brand through the local festival. However, through the literature research, we have deduced a research model that the experience of the local festival changes to the city brand equity.
This study is for the effective analysis and strategic utilization of local festival. Concerning this research, we have proceed structural approach of event attaching importance to experience which is a key character of local festival. The approach of local festival experience applied Strategic Experiential Modules(SEMs) of Schmitt(1999) and experience value of Mathwick et. al.(2001). To examine how the local festival effect on the city brand equity. In sum, the purpose of this research is to investigate how the experience value of local festival effect on the brand equity of the local sity. In total, 144 questionnaires were handed out by a systematic sampling method to visitors at the Muchangpo festival and Yangju festival. 144 valid questionnaires were used in this study. SPSS 17.0 was used to analyze the experience value of local festival and city brand equity.
The results of the study are as follows: First, the entire experience value of local festival was related positively to city brnad recognition. Second, the entire experience value of local festival was related positively to city brand image. Third, city brand equity was related positively to revisit intention. As a result, image as residential area, image as the sights, and image as the investment were influenced on Festival cognitive image. It was revealed that the cognitive image of festival influences city brand equity as a living place, image as a tourism destination, and image as expenditure investment. This research is expected to provide guideline for efficient festival marketing strategies.
The limits of the study are as follows: It is necessary to extends a future this study model, and that includes the examination object of various levels to the center in more multilateral time, and to study festival of various type.
