대중가요 가사의 정서표현과 시대적 의미 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 대중가요 가사에 나타난 정서표현단어를 분석함으로써 대중가요의 시대상과 의미를 탐구하는 데 있다. 대중가요는 과거부터 현재까지 수많은 사람들에게 소통의 매개체로서 활용되어왔으며, 당시의 시대상과 의미를 파악하는데 유용한 정보로 자리매김 하고 있다. 대중가요 가사에 나타난 정서표현단어는 대중가요의 시대적 의미를 도출하는데 용이할 것이다. 따라서 대중가요 가사에 나타난 정서표현이 대중가요에 어떠한 의미를 부여하는지 탐색해 볼 필요가 있다.
본 연구에서는 이와 같은 문제의식을 바탕으로 대중가요 가사의 정서표현단어가 시대적으로 어떠한 의미가 있는지 분석해보았다. 먼저 대중문화 속 대중가요를 논의하여 대중가요의 특징과 변천사를 모색해보았다. 이를 바탕으로 언어에서의 정서표현과 대중가요의 정서표현에 대한 이론적 논의를 진행하였다. 이론적 논의를 바탕으로 총 786곡의 대중가요를 선정하였고, 337개의 정서표현단어를 삽입하여 각 해당 년도의 대중가요가 어떠한 정서표현단어를 포함하고 있는지 분석하였다. 연구방법은 내용분석방법을 통해 빈도분석을 하였고, 이를 연구문제와 관련시켜 심층적인 의미를 도출하였다.
연구문제와 관련한 구체적인 연구결과와 함의는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대중가요 가사에 나타난 정서표현 단어는 시대마다 다르게 도출되었다. 이는 시대 상황에 따라 가사의 표현형식이 달라졌다는 것을 의미한다. 즉, 대중가요는 커뮤니케이션 수단으로 존재하고 있었으며, 이는 시대상황과 창작자 간의 사회적 및 정치적 관계가 드러나는 것을 의미한다고 볼 수 있다. 둘째, 대중가요 가사와 정서표현단어의 관계를 살펴본 결과, 각 정서는 시대마다 특이한 점을 가지고 있었다. 먼저 ‘사랑’ 정서는 시대와 상관없이 꾸준한 증가와 빈도수를 보여주고 있었으며, ‘연민’과 ‘슬픔’ 정서는 시대와 상관없이 고른 분포를 보여주고 있었다. 즉, 대중가요에서 공통적으로 ‘사랑’에 대한 수요는 항상 존재해 왔으며, 그 수요 역시 지속적으로 요구되었다. 또한 ‘연민’과 ‘슬픔’을 통해 한국인의 고유한 정서인 ‘한(恨)’을 내재시켜 대중들과 정서적 커뮤니케이션을 하고 있었다. 셋째, 2000년대 대중가요는 그 이전시대와 달리 정서표현단어의 빈도수와 분포범위가 상당히 높았다. 이는 가사를 통한 직접적 정서표현을 함으로써 대중들과 소통하고 있었다고 보인다. 즉, 가사의 맥락을 통한 커뮤니케이션 보다는 정서단어의 직접적 표현을 사용함으로써 대중들에게 의미전달을 하였다.
이상의 연구결과를 바탕으로 하여 본 연구에서는 대중가요의 정서표현을 통해 시대적 의미를 탐색해 볼 수 있었다. 대중가요의 커뮤니케이션적인 요소와 정서와의 관계를 살펴보면서, 이를 통해 당시 사람들의 심리적, 문화적 요인이 가사에 어떠한 영향을 주고 있는지 밝혀내었다. 본 연구를 통해 대중가요가 지니는 커뮤니케이션적인 요소와 정서와의 관계를 탐색해봄으로써, 향후 다른 연구의 기틀로 자리매김했다는 점이 연구의 성과라 할 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this research is to explore the phase of times of Korean pop music and the significance of the music had by analyzing the lyrics of Korean pop music, specifically the words that express people's emotion. Ever since its advent, Korean pop music has been used as a tool for communication among people, placing itself as an essential clue for researchers in any field to find out how life was like in the past and the significance of the music of specific time. The words that express emotion will ease the process of finding out the meanings of words in specific era. Thus, it is vital to search for what meaning does words that express emotion in lyrics of Korean pop music has on Korean pop music.
This research analyzed how the meanings of words that express emotion in lyrics of Korean pop music varies according to period. First, Korean pop music inside Korean pop culture was discussed to examine the characteristics of Korean pop music and its transition. With this information as basis, the theoretical discussion on the expression of emotion in language and expression of emotion on Korean pop music was held. In regards to the theoretical discussion 786 Korean pop music were selected then were classified by years of its release and 337 words that express emotion were used to find out how many of it were included in Korean pop music. Frequency analysis through content analysis method was introduced as the research method and it was related to the research to deduct a more in-depth analysis. The specific research result and its meaning are the following. First, the words that express emotion were different according to time period. It means according to the circumstances of the era, the expression method varies. Therefore, the Korean pop music acted as a tool for communication exhibiting the social and political relationship among the music composers and the situation of the era. Second, by examining the relationship between lyrics of Korean pop music and words that express emotion, it was found out that each emotions had amusing aspects according to era. 'love' was constantly increasing in both number and frequency regardless of time period. 'sympathy' and 'sadness' were equally distributed regardless of time period. It implies the demand for 'love' in Korean pop music always existed, therefore its number also. Korean pop music facilitate 'sorrow and regret' by using 'sympathy' and 'sadness' so that they could initiate emotional communication with the public. Third, the Korean pop music of 2000's had great number and distribution of the words that express emotion unlike those of the past. It implies Korean pop music communicates with the public by making direct emotional expression. Thus, rather than using the meaning structure of the lyrics, direct use of emotional expression words were used to communicate with the public.
This research could seek the periodic definition by emotional expression of Korean pop music on basis of the research result. By examining the communicative aspects of Korean pop music and its relation to emotion, the effect of people's psychological and cultural factors on lyrics were found. The accomplishment of this research is by analyzing the relationship between communicative aspects of Korean pop music and emotion, it established foundation for later research.
