The purpose of this study was to identify the delaying and advancing factors of the marriage & fertility timing and to examine those affect to the marriage & fertility timing among married women. It also examined the demand of policies in response to low fertility differences in the delaying and advancing groups of their marriage, first, and second childbirth timing.
Data were collected from 393 married women who were first married or gave birth to more than one child between 2006 and 2009 with living in Seoul and Gyeong Gi-Do. The sampling procedure was designed to obtain comparisons between delaying and advancing groups of their marriage, first, and second childbirth timing.
The major findings of this study were as follows:
First, the principal component analyses extracted 5 advancing factors of marriage timing and 5 delaying factors of first childbirth timing. This study also found 6 respective factors of the delaying marriage timing, advancing first childbirth timing, and both of delaying and advancing second childbirth timing.
Second, serial hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that 2 advancing factors of the marriage significantly affect to their the first marriage timing, 2 delaying factors of the fertility timing significantly affect to their the first childbirth timing and 1 delaying factor & 2 advancing factors of the second childbirth timing significantly affect to their the second childbirth timing.
Finally, t-test analyses revealed that 4 the demand of policies in response to low fertility significantly differences in the delaying and advancing groups of their first marriage timing, 4 the demand of policies in response to low fertility significantly differences in the delaying and advancing groups of their first childbirth timing and 6 the demand of policies in response to low fertility significantly differences in the delaying and advancing groups of their second childbirth timing. These results are discussed in relation to the implications of policies in response to low fertility.
