The aim of this study was to examine the effect of group art therapy on disabled brothers' attitude and stress reduction. 26 subjects were recruited among the non-disabled brothers of disabled children who attended B center in A city, Jeollabuk-do. They were in elementary school. I tried to control as many extraneous variables as possible in recruiting the subjects. Also only those who have no experience in group art therapy are included in this study. And they are asked not to participate in other programs during the art therapy.
Disabled brothers' attitude for their relationship was measured with Scheffer and Edgerton(1979)'s measures, their stress was measured by Holroyd(1974)'s revised QRS(The Questionnaire on Resources and Stress), and brothers' relationship and parents' interrelationship in the family were examined by KFD( Kinetic Family Drawing).
SPSS/PC+ statistical program was used on the collected data.
After the homogeneity of the groups was confirmed through a preliminary tests, group therapy sessions were carried out to the experimental group for 20 sessions by twice a week. And the effect of group art therapy was examined by a post-test. The results from these were as follows:
First, the group art therapy was effective in changing the attitudes of the non-disabled brothers with disabled brothers positively. Also in the subscales of attitude change, the embarrassing and hostile attitudes for disabled brothers were relieved, and the acceptable and supportive attitudes were enhanced.
Second, the group art therapy had an effect on the stress relief of the non-disabled brothers with disabled brothers. Also it had an effect on the stress reduction in all such as family circumstance, teacher, friend, and academy except parents among the subscales of disabled brothers' stress.
These results show the positive effect of group art therapy on disabled brothers' attitude and stress.
