With the rise in awareness of environmental pollution, mental stress and nature conservation, environmental friendly food that are more natural and unharmful to human body are poring out throughout the entire industry. Especially, in cosmetic industry, the issued asbestos shock in April 2009 and steroid containing cosmetic in 2011 turned on many consumers to cosmetic components, resulting in their need for organic & natural cosmetics more and more.
Accordingly, 'The guidelines for organic cosmetic PR. labeling' were regulated nationally since 2010 under which the making, sales and labeling PR of organic cosmetic being possible. But still not many people are aware properly of organic cosmetic, and insufficient information about organic cosmetic put the consumers in confusion when they buy them.
Hereupon, this study was aimed to offer a basic data for the sustainedly growing organic cosmetic market through figuring out how many people are aware properly of organic cosmetic and the consumers' awareness, purchase behaviour and matters to be improved at this time a year after the implementation of 'the guideline for organic cosmetic PR, labeling'.
Following are the major findings from the study.
First, the inquiry into the consumers' perception of organic cosmetic showed most adults having heard about organic cosmetic, but a few of them knew the guideline for their PR labeling, and yet many of them responded as natural component containing cosmetic to the question what organic cosmetic is. And most of them came up with New Zealand as a country of organic things, and answered that they judge whether or not organic cosmetic by reading their labeling when they buy them. Besides, they made the most use of home-shopping and Internet shopping in gaining organic cosmetic related information, and most of them perceived the best shelf life of organic cosmetic as 3∼6 months.
Second, the analysis on the consumers' ways and behaviour of using and buying organic cosmetic showed more adults without experience of using organic cosmetic. Skin care products such as soups, skins, lotions were the organic cosmetic most used by people and the most people answered that they bought them by the suggestion of their friends and relatives. They said they consider certified organic labeling more than anything else when buying them. 'Exclusive shops for organic cosmetic' were the shops most used when the consumers were buying them and the majority of the consumers kept them between 3 and 6 months. Those grown up without using organic cosmetic answered that they didn't feel any necessity for their use, still showing their intend to use them later on.
Third, the probe into the consumers' confidence level in organic cosmetic showed many of them putting their trust in them[organic cosmetic] saying their confidence being owing to the image of 'organic'. On the other hand, those disbelievers said that their distrust derived from their doubt that they might contain artificial chemical component.
Fourth, the analysis on the preference for organic cosmetic brands showed more people preferring home products to imported ones with the causes that home brands are more fresh and easier to purchase. Of those home brands, the products by major companies were preferred by more people. Of those imported brands, French brands were preferred by most people, and basic cosmetic were the kinds most wanted among organic cosmetic by the consumers.
Fifth, the analysis on the consumers' satisfaction with organic cosmetic showed many consumers aware of organic cosmetic not much better compared with ordinary cosmetic adding their causes that the current effect of organic cosmetic fall short of their expectation. It reveals the benefits and effects expected most by the home consumers when they buy organic cosmetic. However, those females who used them a long time showed their intend to use them continually.
Sixth, the people who used organic cosmetic the longer answered to the question for their intend to recommend organic cosmetic that
they had the stronger intend to recommend organic cosmetic to their friends and relatives, especially to the people with atopic dermatitis. Those adults with the experience of organic cosmetic use responded that organic cosmetic firstly should gain better reliability.
The findings through inquiry into consumers' awareness and satisfaction with organic cosmetic by this study could be a foundation for detecting the consumers' need and offering them accurate information of organic cosmetic, and would be contributive to lighting a prospect of home organic cosmetic market if a study on benefits and effects of organic cosmetic, boosting confidence in them through the introduction of certification authority & mark for home organic products being conducted together. Consequently, this researcher has a hope that this study could be contributive to the development in home organic cosmetic, buildup of marketing strategy & effective promotion for organic cosmetic market in future.
